Hello, I would like to ask which of these 2 video cards would be better for rfactor2, at this moment I have the gtx1060 3 gb but I do not have the fps that I would like, especially with more cars on the track, I read that it could due to the vram, in change, the rx480 has 8 gb of vram, would it be a good idea to change the card?
Both cards are from the same brand, msi gaming x

I can't say that it will give you better performance swapping to an RX480 however I do know that the 3 GB 1060 is definitely performance hampered by its reduced memory compared to the 6 GB 1060. The RX480 does perform better in titles like Battlefield 1, 4 and 5 compared to the 1060 3GB though so maybe that's an indication for you.

When I was researching before buying my video card there seemed to be a consensus that 4GB VRAM was the absolute minimum to have a good experience in a lot of modern games, however I'd advise you to take the whole benchmark into consideration, more than just the memory. Also try to find rF2 videos on Youtube from people with those cards.

I personally have a GTX 970 with 4Gb of ram and a Ryzen R5 2600, and I have more than the 60 fps needed. I'm using the lower end GPU version of those graphical settings :
    https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/latest-release-1109-rain-effects-and-more.58675/

So would that 1060 3Gb Vs GTX 970 4Gb make a big difference I can't tell, but at least you got something to compare. As a side note, I recently changed my mobo/cpu (I had a Phenom II x6 1055t previously...) and that almost doubled or tripled my fps, so you should also look out for CPU performance in rF2 ;)

    Hope that helped.

I have rx570 similar to rx480 performance wise

I use high end settings suggested by studio397, road reflection high, 15 visible, mirror off, pp effect on high and aa level 3 on 1360:768 screen( low reso plasma)

By the way, on suggested sertings mirrors shown as off, for all suggested settings.

first of all i think that we choose according what kind of monitor we have gsync-freesync
but i v heard nvidia drivers can do freesync these days yes?
second and very important is the fact that 4GB video memory is the lowest all people at the internet agree
third the nvidia 1060 3GB is not just a lower video memory version of the 1060 6GB
but it is also nerfed down a lot from the 1060 6GB so ...
no i dont suggest 1060 3GB form video memory and worst performance compared to 1060 6GB
my opinion is try find a RX 580 4GB and forget both 1060 3GB and RX 480 8GB or at least be sure that RX 480 8GB is equal or better than RX 580

I had AMD FX8350, DDR3 RAM and GTX980 4GB and i switched to i7-8700K, DDR4 RAM but still had the GTX980. Running triple 1080p screen i went from dropping under 60FPS here and there (with just a few AI cars - NOT GT3 even) to consistent 60FPS in daylight with the new CPU+RAM+Pcie3.0 now with the new MoBo. Rain or night would drop me under 60FPS and with heavy rain as the worst culprit that took me down to around 40FPS. Night was also lowering the FPS to 40-ish to 60FPS depending on angle/cars in front etc. When i then changed the GTX980 to RTX2070 i have never seen a drop under 60FPS other than with replays and full PP in certain situations with tons of GT3 cars and the DoF background at certain angles on certain tracks.

    So:
    AMD FX8350, DDR3, GTX980 4GB, triple screen 1080p. Few AI (10) and clear weather = 40-60FPS (locked at 60FPS) with lower settings.
i7-8700K, DDR4, GTX980 4GB, triple screen 1080p. More AI (up to 20) and clear weather = mostly 60FPS with a bit higher settings. Almost max.
i7-8700K, DDR4, RTX2070 8GB, triple screen 1080p. Lots of AI (full grid GT3) all weathers = 60FPS solid with almost max bar PP being medium. I only lowered it because i didnt want any slowdowns at all in replays. During driving however i dont see any slowdown even at ultra PP.

I had both and the 580 8gb gtx 1060 6gb, in rfactor the 1060 is better, but now that they have gone down in price, I would say that if you can jump to 1070, that there is a lot of difference,

today and changed the card and I have the results, it's the best change I've made, with the 1060 3gb I got 12fps in sebring with 10 cars (full graphics) now with the rx 480 8gb I get 30 fps with 40 cars in sebring (graphics complete) I can still regulate the graphics to get 60 stable, but the change has been phenomenal, I think I completely attribute the change to the vram since in the rest are very similar cards.

for rF2, having more video ram is a positive. For either AMD or Nvidia.

the 580 gave me 105 fps, where the 1060 6gb gave me 145 fps, as I said without a doubt the gtx 1060 was better, in a monitor of 32 inches and 144 hz, with FreeSync, the amd was not even far, in fullhd it does not matter if it's 6GB or 8 GB,

    pd.- luck with the 480

the 1060 of 6 gb of vram is superior to the rx480 of 8 gb, but the 1060 of 3 gb of vram is inferior to the rx480 of 8 gb, obviously, this only takes into account the factor 2.
The 1060 of 3 gb of vram is inferior precisely by the 3 gb of vram.
in my computer I put all the graphics to the maximum and I tried the following, 40 cars in sebring, this gave me a result of 3.8 and 4.1 of consumption in the vram

I think it may be prudent to wait a week or so for the GTX 1660ti 6GB to launch. It appears that it has performance akin to the GTX 1070 and better than Vega56.

FreeSync is working fine with GEFORCE GAME READY DRIVER Version : 418.91, 1080Ti and Samsung 49" QLED Curved FreeSync C49HG90 monitor.
There are 12 Nvidia certified FreeSync monitors and Samsung 49" QLED Curved FreeSync C49HG90 is not Nvidia certified but it is working fine.
