Is a 75 hz monitor good enough for sim racing or a higher refresh rate like 144 or 240 is a must these days ?
i was thinking to move from 75 to 144 or stay at 75 and add another one and start building a triple 75 hz monitor sim racing rig.
i dont have the opurtunity to test a 144 monitor with a simulation game at the moment but i would like to listen your experience from people moved to higher refresh rate as sim racers and found a realy reason to stay at 144 or higher

I'd say go for 144. Higher are way less noticeable, plus you'll have all sorts of problems - videocard generating too much heat, and actually cables that would transfer the signal well. I've got Clicktronic cable for my 144 hz monitor, and still sometimes it cannot keep up with the transfer rate. Other than that, the 144hz feels really great. While obviously it's still a pancake mode, and you don't have immersion of VR, the feeling of flawless image + input connection is another approach to feeling of being "there".

    @KittX thanks for responce
VR was always on my mind
but even if its the future, low res grapics and some other issues plus the fact that new VR headsets will come sooner or later, didnt really attracted me.
on the other hand a triple screen solutions works really good for immersion ad not only
i combined 2 monitors these days
a lg23 inches and a 17 inch prehistoric Eizo tft from 2003 monitor and the effect was WOW.
yes VR has super pros but not yet.

the one thing to remember about 144hz, is that you have to have a similar frame rate to get the optimal performance on the screen and avoid screen shearing and lag type effect, and that means having heavy gpu horsepower as well, so your able to run as close to 144fps as possible, and if you want triple 144hz screens, you need insane gpu performance.

Of course there are benefits outside gaming and not dependent on gpu power, will feel super smooth and responsive, but, for example, if the gpu only allows 75fps performance in a game, then there is no benefit to having the 144hz display at all.

What happens when the cable can't keep up? Do the errors get displayed on screen or the frames get dropped?

I running triple 144Hz 7680x1440, but as mention I don't think any single gpu can do stable 144 fps with high settings.
But if you stay at 1080 that will help, and if you have amd gpu, the freesync monitors have lower price than the same nsync variant.

Even with nsync, fluctuation in fps do not work good imo (at least not in SLI), so I have locked my settings to 100 fps/hz, this I can have stable in rF2 and others with high/max settings on most options.

One other aspect of running triples, the nvidia surround will limit your max Hz to 120, maybe amd works different.

There is an noticeable difference from 75 to 100, from 100 to 120 maybe something if you want to motivate your investment :D

144 Hz refresh is desirable because of multisync which will automatically match your fps when you have a compatible card. If you don't have a matching card, it will still be beneficial.

Higher than 144 Hz is a marketing gimmick and not worth paying for.

75 Hz is "okay", noticeably better than 60 Hz, but note Wergilius' comments that up to 90 or 100 Hz will be better.

Freesync is a no-brainer for you.

    I haven't seen any 144 Hz monitors that weren't Freesync or G-Sync?

Most of them have never tried fixed refresh rates in-between 60 Hz and 144 Hz, so what they're really saying is the game changer is multi-sync (freesync or g-sync).

RX 580 will probably not push 144 FPS from rF2, at least not with AI cars. In order to get most benefit out of 144 Hz monitor, FPS should be close to the same as well. 75 Hz from 60 Hz is a nice jump and 144 Hz from 75 Hz is also somewhat of a jump, but 75 Hz is very usable IMO. Race sims aren't as critical anyway as fast paced FPS shooters, as racing is more about anticipating what the car will do than pure reactions.

I was looking at screens as i want to buy 3 new monitors later on, and i looked at 75hz ASUS monitors, but here is my question: do you have to reach 75FPS for it to be smooth? Or in the case of 144hz monitors do you have to reach 144FPS to get it smooth? With 60hz monitors if you drop 1FPS under you are toast, and im not sure i can run rF2 ultra at even 75FPS at all times on triples let alone 144FPS lol. This is the only thing that scares me with high hz monitors. Maybe GSYNC and other tech lets you be under it and its still better than 60hz as long as you are above 60hz? Like if you reach 80FPS on a 144hz monitor it will look much smoother than 60FPS on 60hz monitor?
