Interested to know about the possible bottleneck.
I have a Intel i7 4790 (8x 4GHz) and a GTX 1080 ti (triple 27" 144Hz monitors). But I seem to suffer from occasional stutter (all sims), even with rather high FPS count (+120 e.g.). Which makes me think I have to upgrade the MB.
(Not hindered by any PC knowledge here...) :D

@Fanapryde Bottleneck would affect FPS; if something is occasionally causing performance loss and leading to stuttering I guess you either isolate what's causing it and eliminate it, or reduce your FPS (limit in player.JSON or similar) and see if that 'fixes' (masks) it.

    OK, thanks.
So bottleneck affects FPS and not stutter. Something learned.
I already have my FPS limited to 120. So maybe I should try even lower then...

    PCIe 2.0 x16 single card
    PCI-3x8.jpg

    PCIe 3.0 x16 single card
    PCI-3x16.jpg

As you can see from the pics above PCIe 3.0 x16 has about +-30% better performance in rF2 which is common knowledge in S397 forums.

What do you need for triple screen 24 inch and decent FPS? I am getting a i7 8700K with good RAM (havent chosen yet) and for now using my GTX980. Will update that when i can, but going from AMD FX8350 and crap RAM i should see a little better triple performance?

@Alex72 First, avoid talking about screen size when it comes to performance, size really doesn't matter :p

Resolution does, of course, but 5760x1080 actually runs with decent FPS (albeit alone or with few cars; I haven't properly tested race conditions yet) on my Radeon HD7970 (with i5 8600K). I imagine your CPU upgrade will have some effect but GPU will be the main factor when it comes to FPS.

On screens your CPU mainly needs to be able to run the physics with some headroom, it'll be more in demand as you add more AI or potentially changing conditions / special effects could tax it more, but I don't think I'd be expecting huge increases because of the i7 (which is half wasted on rF2; no advantage over i5 or even older gen intel with similar clockspeed, for screens). RAM speed means even less, definitely don't spend double for higher (OC) numbers, just get the typical ones for the 8th gen CPU and spend your money on the GPU.

That's weird. So if you run PCIe 3.0 x8 (SLI) then you also get -30% performance in rF2 vs all other games where you don't see this performance impact?

You get up to 30% more fps in rf2. Yes. Other games aren't that influenced by the switch.

Im upgrading as a general upgrade so i wont scale down on the CPU, but i guess i need to get a better GPU to see better performance for the triple screen. With my FX8350 i can barely have any AI. Usually i do maybe 10 AI or it will get choppy. With a 1080 card though you think it will be enough with the i7 8700K to run full grid on Sebring? Maybe not full graphics of course. I dont mind if i lower it a bit. I just want 60FPS.

@Alex72 1080 runs fine 3x24" at 60 fps with descent in-game settings but it can be tricky to get good GPU load. My advice to you is to buy 1080 which has 3 display ports.

@Ari Antero Can you please explain the benefits of having 3xDP? My setup is a cheap mishmash of HDMI screens and a card which doesn't do 3 of anything, and needed an active converter to drive 3xHDMI screens total, which means it works but has unfixable tearing (I can live with it, just loving triples).

Anyway, in getting this setup and looking at the issues and potential solutions it's not as straightforward as I might have thought. I gather nVidia at least might not have required the converter, so curious what makes you say that about the DP - raw performance, compatible timings, or what?

Do you know if SLI works well in rF2? Wont have the money for a 1080 just now, but i can get another 980 cheap.

DisplayPort is similar to HDMI, but better designed for computer displays. You can also use multiple monitors with just one DisplayPort output. You can get hubs to do this, or use displays which support daisy chaining (meaning they have a DisplayPort input and output) DisplayPort can be adapted for VGA, HDMI, and DVI inputs.

Edit: Make sure that you are using a "high speed" HDMI cable.

i5 8600k or i7 8700k dont support PCIe 3.0 x16 x16 and the second card is wasted money if you are only playing rF2.

Gaddamit, lol. :D I want a CPU that supports PCIe 3.0. Now i have to do even more research... Cheers.

    i5 8600k and i7 8700k suports PCIe 3.0 x16 which is to single card. (SLI support is PCIe 3.0 x8 x8)

Right. Found that out. Noticed i can get the 9700K for the same price as 8700K. Question is if its any better though. I havent noticed any WOWs with my 8 core AMD. 8700K is 6 core so maybe stronger per core I just want the best for the money i put down. Also dont know if shifters and ffb wheels get any problems with usb 3.0 etc. Gotta do more research before hitting the store. :)

I was a little concerned about that too. I still have both shifters (HE + Fanatec), button box (Iginition Controls) and pedals (HE Ultimates) in the USB2 ports. Because I have only four of these available (clearly not enough) I started out with trying the OSW (Simucube) wheel in a USB3 and that worked perfectly.
Tried the button box in USB3 and I got some issues assigning controls, so back to USB2 for that one. Refrained from trying the other devices in USB3 and added an external powered USB hub in USB3 for a led light (to light up the button box at night) and headphones. No issues there.

Cheers, bud. Seems the motherboard i ordered together with the 8700K cpu have tons of USB but they seem all to be USB 3.0 gen2/3. Maybe it had 2 USB 2.0. Can keyboard and mouse be on USB 3.0? In case i need the 2.0's for Wheel and shifter.
