This is completely incorrect, Studio397 have improved VR performance with the last main build, they have already stated VR in the rain needs more optimisation and they are pursuing a Lock To Horizon style implementation.

Also, I and others are running VR just fine with less powerful cards than a 1080ti, I'm sorry you're having continuous issues and I hope you sort them out.

I have a 1080 and i'm very happy with my Oculus.
I have 90 fps in almost every circuit.
I can't have everyting on full, but it runs smooth and with very decent graphics.
In RF2 is important too to have an i7 cpu.

I run VR with a Lenovo headset and an RX480 AMD video card. Most of my settings are one down from maximum (some are lower if it's a feature I really don't care about). It runs just fine. I don't know and don't care what the numbers are for the framerate as long as I don't notice any stagger, stutter or video anomalies. I'll admit I can't run in the rain, but I can live without rain.

Well. Today I updated the gpu driver and it seems to be a little better. I finally managed to do some lap without any freezes, but it isn’t fluid. I don’t why,but with medium graphic setting it seems to work better than low setting.

It runs fine on my 1080 (FWIW I paid a lot less than $1000 for it at Christmas) as long as it's not raining and I don't get greedy with detail levels and number of opponents. The only time I have had a real problem was with Le Mans on AC where the frame rate became jerky and quickly triggered VR sickness, something that has never happened with rF2* which I play much more often.

    * (apart from when I first got my Rift.)

lol , just a fast i5 will do it hey ! But it doesn't hurt having more cores to handle background processes .

lol , threads then in my case ;) same same but different :) whatever they are they gave me about 60% more CPU headroom in CPU limited games than my old 6600k .
But current i7's certainly do have more cores than last Gen i5's ! :p

When it comes to in game performance in rFactor2 you claim is placebo and nonsense.
There are a lot of discussions in the S397 forums about CPU performance, how many cores, i7 or i5 etc. You don`t seem to realize that it is single core performance which counts in games and it does not mater if you have 4 or 10 cores 4th-8th generation i5 or i7 Intel CPU game performance (fps) is similar when equal processor base frequency is used.

    i7-8700K
    Cores 6
    Threads 12
    Processor Base Frequency 3.70 GHz
    Turbo Frequency 4.70 GHz
    Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology, Yes

    i5-8600K

    Cores 6
    Threads 6
    Processor Base Frequency 3.60 GHz
    Turbo Frequency 4.30 GHz
    Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology, No

The rest of the specifications are similar i7-8700K vs i5-8600K.

As you can see number of cores is equal and we also know that rFactor2 uses two cores. Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology is not needed in rF2. If you own i5-8600K the only thing you have to do is to go in BIOS and use Turbo Frequency 4.70 GHz and you have the performance of i7-8700K in rFactor2.
    ;)

    I don't know about hardware.
    I write based on experience.
In our champs there are more than ten people using VR and some of them had problems using I5 cpus. And they stopped having problems when they changed to I7. I don't think that there is a cores problem. Much has been said about this in the forum.

First time I’m thinking of going i5 as opposed to i7
    I keep hyperthreading off anyhow
& from Info there’ll be little difference

    I’ll overclock to 5ghz watercooled

My "placebo" was actual reality but not in rF2 !
It was in pC2 and other games that stuttered and struggled to pass 60fps in 4k and were task manager was showing 100% and red on my i5 6600k at 4.8GHz and then with the i7 7700k at 4.8Ghz those same games can pass 60fps (and hold vsync) and task manager now shows 42% !

But this IS a rF2 topic so i guess i am in the wrong for posting i5 to i7 benefits here ! Sorry .

This quote caught my eye. I'm not an expert in any way but when I did some VR benchmarking it shows all 8 threads of my i7-4770 being utilised?? I'm using Aggressive Threading. Is it background processes?

Yea, it did help... thank you,
Let’s say, it is getting much better now. Today I did 20 laps with the Radical at Nola Park and woww... Rfactor 2 with VR and my 4 buttkickers( simvibe) is something else... it blows out by the water AC and pcars2.
Clouds in Rfactor2 is a performance killer and the same with shadows ( I turned it off ) .
Can some one explain me the “ aggressive threading “ option !
    I have i7-8700 3.2GHz.....should I thick it?

Aggressive threading seemed to help me ( i7 2600k ) but I’m sure it was adding to the second freezes so I turned it off
    Track detail low helps alot
