People don't like my unwraps, but I'll weigh in anyway. Looks like some distortion on the side, you should unwrap with a texture like this: http://bct.me/tutorials/building-a-tree/building-a-tree-part-3-uv-unwrapping/, it'll really show where things have gone out of wack. I still think you should go to a 2x1 layout, but it's up to you. Edit: Also, you might just want to cut one half of the helmet off, so you only need to unwrap one half, it should be symetrical, so it'll be easy to put two halves together again. I say this because if you need to do a lot of work to get everything straight, it'll be easier to cut the workload in half.
Hey coutie, I'm sure your uvmappings are great! I'll take more time to see the site you sent tomorrow during my break. I opted for the 2x2 because I thought I'd be able to cram all the helmet maps into one dds (helmet+visor+screws etc). We'll see but I might have to change my ways of doing things as I'm in a learning process. I'll also see about the symmetry (as I model the helmet anyways by symmetry). Cheers mate!
Ok so I had a bit of fun today: Not much additional modelling, just something I can add a bandit hood to later on
On the side or the upper part of the helmet, like the top of the band where I had put the Denim logo ? When you talk about distortion, do you mean the model itself or the mapping ? But if I cut the helmet in half, uvunwrap it... won't I be screwed later on when I want to put logos on for example? I think there's something I'm fundamentally not understanding lol
I thought it was distorted on the side, but it could be the camera angle. Well, after you unwrap one side, you just select the other side and mirror it, then you can weld them together, and then you'll have the same on both sides.
Didn't have much time tonight for the tryout of what you said Coutie, but I was wondering if it would look more like Piquet with this balaclava, I had to try for 10 mins:
The GPA being quite a complicated model (and maybe I didn't model correctly enough yet), I did part of the Arai which is a much simpler base, easier to handle afterwards, first results look better IMO:
Thank you ChiefWiggum! Guys and gals, quick question: Do I need to keep the interior polys of the visor? To me they might seem unnessessary (but just in case, might as well ask). Thank you for your help
Well... I'll try a harder quiz in a few minutes... Well done lol ! All I have to say for now is that: Thankfully all the 1986 helmet designs were pretty simple and straightforward
