hosting ...is there an up to date step by step guide ?

hi

going to have another bash at hosting

deadicated PC ( surface pro 4 , win10 ) , will connect it by cable to router,

i hope to join the server with my main PC ( win10 ) & others join too

going to reset my virgin media router prior , what is the simplest up to date method ???


ps tried to do it ages ago with instructions on the steam rf2 but after hours of trying it was a total fail )-:

 

+do i need to install steam & rfactor 2 ( & rfactor 2 content ) on the deadicated PC server ?

 

The steamcmd instructions you're probably referring to worked for me. No need to install anything else separate, and definitely not steam itself.

I did host with rfactor2 not long after release , took me ages to get it setup & working , easy each time after

But trying again last tear was hours of frustration then I gave up

Fingers crossed this time

 

You could do a session in the dedicated server prototype and copy the rfmod to your dedicated server, most times it works

If you're installing the dedicated server just do the steamCMD thing. That will sort it all out for you.

yes, tried before & does not work fo me, trying it again

 

forgetting about the shortcuts
downloading the content is a no go ( from that little black box thing)

I think i can install steam, install rfactors & download the content I want to host (Kartsim) & simply drag and drop the kartsim folder to the deadicated folder ............can i do this ????????????

"open a command line in the CMD " ....the CMD is the black box right ? opening a command line ...great how do we do this ? , this guide is poor , there needs to be a vid showing step by step

I & guess most others do not want to be typing anything into little black boxes

 

You'll need to give more info than this.

 

cant get the black box to even understand my commands
I copied & pasted the command line from the instructions, 2nd time I changed the 1st letter to "C" (my hard drive)

anyway losing patience with the spooky black box -its a time waster, hoping to install & drag & drop ?

Yeah, you're right, those of us used to command prompts will gloss over this and half the time not even realise we're forgetting to mention stuff we just take for granted. Same goes for many other things in rF2 as well.

 

yep, the whole rF2 hosting system (and some other stuff in the game) when I was learning I could just shake my head, was easy to me as I'm used to command lines but I just imagined a new user doing this, the game shoots itself on the foot all time. Hope S397 can change this quickly

 

not only do I have any clue with those black boxes I actually dont want to have

but doing my best to try and get hosting to work

 

My server is on win10.
I open the folder where steam cmd was installed not the dedicated server.
I press shift and right click.
Then click open powershell window here.
The powershell should open and should say something like c:\steamcmd>
If it doesn't type cmd and press enter. It should say it now.
Now you can copy paste the command in to install.

 

what is a powershell ?

actually sounds nice, I'll try to do that to see what pops up etc
