Is it possible to edit an existing track on the workshop without compromising it and if so, how would i go about this? I just want to change a minor detail.

Depends what you want to do.

If you need to edit some textures, like replacing track side billboards, then it is possible. You need to unpack, edit texture(s) or perhaps AIW file and repack the track again. Just remember that track is not compatible with original track anymore after any edit and repacking (if you meant that with phrase "compromise").

If you want to edit track geometry, then no.

Thanks for your response. What about the speed trap, how easy would this be?

Hi, sorry, I think I wasn’t clear enough. I mean the speed trap in the map. For example, if you go to “expand” within the timings screen it says “speed” next to Laps, etc. I’m assuming this value is from the speed trap?

I think the speed you are talking about is the average speed over a lap. There are no speed traps in rf2
