I don't usually make this kind of post, but I've been thinking about it a lot...

I spent many hours on the original rF1 Lienz in all of it's different configurations. I'm sure many others here did too. There we're so many variations to explore and the track had a bit of everything, let me remind you:
    • snaking through the forrest
    • climbing the hill with hairpins
    • cutting through the mountains
    • enjoying the view from the top
    • the crazy fast downhill section with jump and sweeping flat out turn
    • the bumpy left-right-left-right on the edge of the hill
    • cruising over the town bridge
    • hooning through the streets
    • drifting around the roundabout
This track was what got me hooked on sim racing, and it's a massive shame it's not been given the proper rF2 treatment. Imagine it with the new weather and lighting effects. It would be glorious.

I would attempt it myself but I only have experience modding cars, so I'm reaching out to any track modder to help on this fantastic project which Mario started. I'd happily pay a 'donation' for this to happen, and would hope others would too.

    Anyone else with me?

I voted yes but the way you created the poll regarding negative answer is unfair. Many people will want to see option "No, because I don't like to pay for a track" or "No, because I am not interested in such track"

Point taken. I've added some more options. Unfortunately I can't remove my first poll options.

For me yes, for this track a low donation yes (for me ~5 €)(the RF1 version is not bad for me), but yes.

I would really love a new version. I know it's fictional but it's a blast to drive.

I'm with you, but updating such an old track to standards of 15 years later is a huge task. It would be a big task even for a normal track, but even more for something of as big an area as Lienz. AFAIK ISI basically rebuilt the entire Toban from scratch for rF2, because the old track as such couldn't be used. If it would be about DX11 texture and rain effect work, well, that's quite doable and a relatively quick job. But things like low-res objects, low-res road mesh and trees would all require entirely new art and modelling. I think it would be a task of around 200-500 hours.

200-500 hours it is more than I thank.
For that I will not only donate 5€

Offtopic : guys do you know the fictionnal but very very good RF1 layout "VITUS PARK INTERNATIONAL" ?

I could donate for good conversion ! I think the modder is @Tommy78

Sorry for the offtopic, but I will not create a thread for this.

I think you end up redoing the track if you truly want to bring it up to rFactor 2 standards in terms of modelling and texturing, and a huge track like Lienz with all its layouts will probably take you more than 500 hours. I would not be surprised if it would take a small team of people at least a few months full-time.

That means that if you want to crowdfund such a project, and actually pay someone to do the work, you need to raise a considerable amount. That said, if such a project does happen, Studio 397 would definitely consider contributing the track in its current state.

Knowing absolutely nothing about track making* could this be done by crowdsourcing rather than crowdfunding? I'm thinking of something along the lines of "The Garage" with a lot of people contributing small bits to the project. I don't know how much the road mesh could be shared out (I assume at least the differing bits of the different layouts could be done by different authors) but objects and trees sound like they could each be a mini project. I'm thinking there being could be many revisions of the track, starting with one layout with an updated road mesh threading through naff objects and trees, then slowly adding updated art and modelling and the other layouts.

A benefit of this would be introducing new people to track making, 3D modelling and so on. The barriers to making a whole track look very high but I reckon I could do a flag marshal's hut.

*I don't think once using BTB to make a small half-finished circuit for rF1 counts...

lol TOTALLY off topic. You used the word 'reckon' That was a very common word at one time in the USA. But it's use died out and now you only hear it when watching old Western movies. But I've recently noticed that the word is still in use in England. Ed Sheeran has a song where he 'Reckons' and since I noticed that, I've heard 'reckon' used repeatedly, in British TV clips on youtube. Show like Graham Norton etc. Just tickled the ol funny bone...thats all. You may now return to our regularly scheduled discussion.

I didn't know that, do you reckon it sounds as archaic as Americans saying "gotten" does to British ears? ;)
