about f1 1967 and clutch i see there is much confusion :)

in past i spoke with Beat Schenker, Silvio Moser's mechanic in F1 from 1967 to 1970.
    his cars: Cooper T77, brabham bt20, brabham bt24 and bellasi f1 70.
he told me that in that era drivers usually didn't use clutch upshifting.
some drivers used clutch downshifting, usually to avoid technical problems.
somebody else simple didn't used clutch. only at start.

P.S. you can conctact him here: https://www.silviomoser.ch/indexnuovo.html

    Beat Schenker
In 1966 I was working as a mechanic in Silvio Moser's garage. During 1967 I helped him on three of his races as an assistant mechanic. From 1968 onwards, I became the official mechanic for the races, and remained in this position until Silvio Moser lost his life in a racing car accident in 1974.
Among other projects, I am currently trying to restore two of Silvio's Formula One cars, the "Brabham Ford BT 24 - 3" and the "Bellasi Ford F1 - 70".

p.s. he spoke German and a bit of Italian. English not very well.

Very interesting, thank you. I did read something along the same lines on the iRacing forum a couple of years back, but it was hearsay, nice to know it's now been confirmed.

Like a dog box so...it could be in upshift...but still not really good for the mechanism. In downshift I think it should be too important to use for decide where to place the rear axle.

Old GPL gearheads will remember this video from about 2000-2001 (not long after the first ACT labs H-shifter was released):

The guy driving raced FF, F3 and even a bit of Formula Atlantic back in the early/mid seventies....

Yeah, he's quite relaxed and "unhurried," isn't he?
I haven't spoken with him in years, but when I last ran across him (in GTR), he was still a big advocate of using the H-shifter wherever applicable, too.

I guess when you hone your skills in a Brabham BT-35, sim-racing is easy by comparison.

I found I was driving around Longford in your 312, surprisingly well. It's a perfect fit for the car of course coming from that era. I'm not sure how the racing would be there since it's single file for most of the circuit, with one real overtaking opportunity (as long as you are mistake free) under braking into the last turn.

For sure worth taking this beauty for a spin around this super high quality track.

I've found lots of great racing on Carrera 4's 88 Mod tracks, Jacarepagua is my favourite with it's long sweeping turns, lots of overtaking opportunities and variations of lines possible for the historics. Great racing too at Mexico City, Estoril, Jerez, Spa and Silverstone.

At first I was a little concerned about the lack of tracks for RF2 where this car would excel, but having tried dozens of quality tracks out there, there are a ton of options from natural era fits like Kyalami 76, Silverstone 75, Spa 66, Monte Carlo 66 and Monza 10k to more modern tracks that fit the characteristics of the car such as Montreal, Tiger Moth, Korea, India, Modern day Monza, Spa and Silverstone.

This is a fantastic car, the attention to detail is fabulous, the model is great and the physics are perfect, the challenge of how difficult it must have been to drive these cars is really captured and rewards you if you put the hours in to practice and adjust your style to accommodate it.

Now get on with the rest of the 67 grid guys :)

    Nice to hear :)
Yeah I have also been "worried" with the lack of tracks, but there is lot of great tracks to drive. Modern ones too :) I love Dijon and salzburgring!

You should try this jewel in Road America, I believe in my humble opinion the best road track.
