I think the only way you could get more people is to have different divisions for people with slower pace and give the winners (or top 5) some kind of prize like a McLaren F1 minuature car signed by Alonso, without that there is no reason for people to take part in it, I mean... you just hot lap for no reason and there no race against the people with same lap time as yours, no prizes, nothing. No amount of promo would bring more people to join it. It's no different in any other competition I guess

They clearly dont wanted to sell it (at that point)!
As you said, people found this offer by chance. No advertising, teasing, information (both about offer and the car(s) itself),
no marketing at all. If that is how S397 wanted to sell their DLCs for generating income, then good night....
And dont you tell me that is not my business, as I want my (still) favorite sim to grow and survive because I cant drive any other.
So if rF2 dies, my hobby dies too.

The McLaren has no talent files. You can prove this in two ways without even trying to open the MAS:
    1. Only the preprogrammed AI names show up (e.g. Frank Fauvel) when you have only a couple AI opponents.
    2. The AI names have inconsistent performance between races because they're assigned random numbers for their rcd skill (e.g. Frank Fauvel will easily win the first race, but be stupidly slow the second race).

How can you tell how well the McLaren or pack are selling?

I just find it odd that there is no change at all in rf2 usage numbers:
    http://steamcharts.com/app/365960
To me that just suggests it is the people who already actively playing rf2 who are buying the car. No new players.

They sold over 1100 units of the McLaren/GT3 Pack, that much is evident from the participating numbers in the first WFG Round. That is of course not counting those that did not take part.

Owners and Players in last 2 weeks are at all time high tho if I'm not mistaken.
Don't know how that players in 2 weeks stats works, but comparing to RaceRoom for example, RR has less daily active players accoring to Steam, but a lot more players in 2 weeks probably due to the nature of the free 2 play part

+1 then, at least :D Not interested in the prize. Not that I could win it anyway. Did get into the 1:59s at Silverstone GT though, I was quite pleased with that.

I think with all steam stats they only show stats for people who have not set their steam accounts private (or something like that). Where do you get the info that owners and players are at all time high? Owners for sure because that number rarely goes down :p but players..?

The number changes (and go down too) from time to time. I'm just saying from my mind, I never saw numbers higher than now, I always like to take a look during a release or sale since it's when the peak happens. Like the 1,4k players during the DX11 first day of beta.
It's fun to see how sometimes updates in other games can affect it, especially inside the simracing market

Let's assume those who buy any item will start the game. The game will subscribe them automatically. Check the current subscribers.

Thanks demerzel, that seems a very reasonable test.

Assuming no one bought both the single car and the pack, that's 4703 owners of paid DLC. Significantly larger number than have entered WFG.

Compared to steamspy.com's "Players in the last 2 weeks: 16,901 ± 3,742", that's at least 22.7% of the active players (& no more than 35.7%). Will be interesting to see how much that increases once the full pack is released.

Actually. I believe the McLaren current subscribers is the total of DLC sales. Here is why: Everyone who bought the GT pack also got the McLaren. But those who only bought the McLaren haven't got the GT Pack. With this in mind, you can't just sum the two current subscribers.

I believe so and that's how I calculated the figures.

    Good point.

Revised numbers: at least 14.4% of active players (& no more than 22.6%).

Round 3 qualifying is all wrapped up now! The names we see in the top 10% are consistently appearing here, so I don't think anyone should doubt the skill they show. This competition particularly attracted the skilled drivers, so as the number of entrants declined, those of us with lesser dedication or skill have seen our relative ranking sink and we should not despair because this is just a reflection of the population statistics. In other words, as I ran about the 40th percentile in the broadly-based first & second rounds, I'm down to about the 50th percentile in a more narrowly-based third round.

Median lap time is 1:01.99 for 404 entrants.
    • From 1:01 to 1:03, there are 233 people (57.7% of total). Not surprising considering the shorter lap time.
    • To be in the top 10% of total entrants, you need to be below 1:00.71.
    • 69 people are in the 1:00s (17.1% of total).
    • Top 20 are 1:00.26 to 1:00.47. A little surprising that no one burst through to the 59s.

I now have a few versions of the McLaren in my packages folder that cannot be uninstalled or deleted.
What is the procedure here ? if anyone knows, thanks.
