    New Version on Steam Workshop:
    2022-08-04 -v1.300

    - Changed class names from (for example) "Cobra_1954Endur_S5.0" to "1954_S5.0".
    - Custom collision meshes for each unique car shape.
    - Car #37 (Fisher-North) now using Fisher-North coupe physics (as used by #36 and #38 Fisher-North coupe cars), due to an unexpected issue seemingly related to the interaction of physics and the new collision shape (sorry).
    - Tweaked headlight glow texture brightness (a little dimmer).
    - Tweaked cockpit gauge texture colour (still dark during the day, but at night it looks like a pleasant glow).
    - Changed package file name from "AC_472SC_1954_Endurance" to "AC_427SC_1954_Endurance" (sorry, a long-term typo correction, that almost no one will have seen).

    OLD NEWS
    Cobra 1954 Endurance carset v1.201

    (based on Studio397's AC Cobra 1967 v1.2)
    Prepare to be patient :D
I don't recommend driving a modern high grip car immediately before trying these.

I saw videos like this of Le Mans 1954 and was inspired to make/mod some stuff:

and this race summary video https://api.motorsport.tv/embed/yX8e14iw?autoplay

We can read all about it on Montorsport Magazine's archive:
    https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/article/july-1954/19/les-vingt-quatre-heures-du-mans-1954

With some research, some data, some help, and some reading i was able to learn and make enough changes to make what i think is an interesting bunch of cars. I hope they can be enjoyed for what they are :)

    Modified:
    • Car weight and Inertia (now ranging from 500kg to 1200kg)
    • Engines (ranging from 1.1L to 5.5L, with speeds up to 275kph)
    • Gearboxes (beware that some cars have long first gears)
    • Brakes (most cars have pseudo drum brakes: weaker)
    • Stock Cobra "Street" tyres (less grip/contact patch than '67 Competition tyres)
    • Stock Cobra suspension, track/wheelbase, fuel tank
    • Car body has slimmer rear wheel arches, and visually narrower tyres (6" / 7")

The car entries have race numbers in order of engine capacity, with the lowest numbers having the largest engines. This is useful when choosing a car, and manually adding AI to an event.

The red Galoppare cars (103, 104, 105), and dark green Jungle Cat Cars (112,114,115) are expected to be the quickest cars. The Galoppare have strong acceleration and good top speed, while the Jungle Cat Cars have the highest top speed and disc brakes, but also a long first gear and weak acceleration.

Some of the real cars of the period were extremely slow compared to the leading cars, and those speed differentials did cause some problems when the slow cars were being lapped by AI. As a result, I've created a baseline performance. The slowest cars are lifted to this level which is still quite slow and may still cause issues when lapping, but does work a bit better.

The total number of entries for a 1954-esque race is 57 (1 DNS), though the current version of Le Grand Circuit only caters for 55. The next version will support 61.

The final three cars, 190, 191, 192 are supplementary vehicles, not normally used for a 1954-esque race. But they are included for fun.

If anyone is interested in doing further work with the physics or models, please contact me :)
    • Additional engine sounds are from other s397 cars
    • Contains some adjustments to meshes, materials, and textures
    • Includes RCD Talent file
    • Car pit groups assigned to work with Le Grand Circuit 1967
Please don't expect these cars to grip like monsters :D
It might help to slow down steering and throttle inputs, and brake early, and focus on clean laps.

This is my first venture into car physics (alongside the Howston G4 '67 pack).
thanks to yoss from Apex for some hints and tips, and redapg for the Online Tools.
Thanks to ISI and Studio397 for the base car and sounds.

    Thanks everyone :)
Compared to the tracks I've worked on, these car packs were a breeze (but I've only just started learning the physics) :p

@woochoo Thank you for this but I have the carset installed but do not see them in the list of cars. Where can I find them?

Yeah I looked in there but only had the 1.2 version from S397. I will uninstall & delete the package and re-download it as might have been something up with the download.

    Fantastic work! :D
30 laps @ Bathurst last night with 25 ai cars was just so much fun. Changing places, late braking and drifting up to the mountain
at dawn, seeing the sunset just as you start to lap the slower dudes.... WOW (managed a 7th. with rear damage;))
Thanks a lot for providing such racing experiences too everyone!

It's great to hear people are having that sort of fun with it, thanks :)

Sorry to hear that. I only packaged a few builds into the main retail part of the game and didn't have any problem. Were you able to resolve it?

Yes, I uninstalled, deleted the initial package, downloaded and installed again, and it showed up. Must have been something wrong with the initial install/download. Many thanks Woochoo, I had a race around Brianza yesterday, and definitely a carset that requires full focus. I like!!! :)

Thanks woochoo, it's the first time I've tried these. I'm not a Cobra lover - "The world's fastest lorries" as Bugatti said of the Bentleys - but the lower-powered ones are fun to drive. I had a go in one of the beasts also. Well, there's a certain technique it seems - brake in the neighbouring county, eventually turn the nose in to somewhere near the apex, tickle the throttle to get the tail to swing round just enough - and I have yet to master it on more than one corner in any lap :)
