Hopefully everybody involved in rF2 development will earn considerably more than 5€/hour.

What, €5 per hours for an engineer? Where do you live? It's more like €50 - €100 an hour in europe for an engineer hour cost that gets sold. You have to sum all up: salary, non productive work (mails, meetings, project planning), social insurance, vacation, illness, building cost, working/network/server machine and administration cost, marketing and and and ...

Sounded like they'd sell it like RaceRoom does, their own store and use Steam to pay

No, not applicable in this case. A custom car or track requires the exact same detail a "non custom" car or track would require. This isn't artwork being commissioned versus a print of some mass produced artwork...

Paid DLC keeps RF2 alive and the developers funded. The new content will sell if it is good. Seems like a no brainer win win to me.

    None of you think forward.
Today they will release 1 content for 5€. Tomorrow they will release another one for 5€. The day after that they will release another one for 5€. That's 15€ now for 3 content. And you don't know where is the end.

And this is just the cars. If 1 car priced at 5€ how much will be a track? They already confirmed that multiple tracks are under way.

If I brought up the tracks. What about them? Do you need to own the tracks to race on them in a league? It makes sense to buy them, isn't it? Otherwise, how would you avoid group buys?
A year or two later if you are a new comer. You need to buy the game for 30€ and a number of tracks and cars to join a league. How much will that cost? It's certainly not 5€.

I don't see how you will grow the player base with this. OMG, It's cheaper than iracing. Quickly abandon iracing and join to the rfactor 2 community. Rebuy all the content you already own in iracing because it's cheaper.

I Know. Just wanted to give an overview. I wouldn't be studying technical engineering if you get that less per hour. ;)
I wanted to show if they would just get 5 € the costs at the end would even be high....Even with extreme low and unreal payment.
    Cheers

So?? I hope they release more DLC. Sounds like U rather no content then? Simple fact comes down to it. No DLC = no major licence content l. Live off average quality mods. Sim dies.

Pay DLC. Get new quality licensed cars and tracks. And possiblilty of a few free content thrown in between.

Hey, I tell you a secret: hobbyes are expensive! And Iracing is still more expensive than RF2.. and probably allways will be.
Newcomers will decide on their own how much money they can spend, but for sure, you don't need to have 100 cars to have fun, especially at the beginning. There is plenty of free content, and it will probably remain as it is.

If you don't mind me saying so, I think people who own a lot of content in iRacing (and, presumably, play it fairly often) aren't going to be too worried about some rF2 content not being free. By the time you buy a PC (and keep it up to date), wheel, pedals, screen, perhaps more/bigger screens, maybe VR, then invest hundreds of hours at least in practicing and getting fairly good at it, then probably get a better wheel and/or pedals because you've seen more realistic ones out there... iRacing isn't much on top, and rF2 is less.

As for leagues, if they want to run a series with DLC that's their choice. People can simply join a league that doesn't, and they will exist if there's any demand.

Hey, I tell you another secret: Hobbies can be made expensive on purpose. Just like iracing do. Because there is no alternative. ;)

Iracing can lower their prices. It's priced the way it is now because they can do that.
It's pretty bad that you all keep repeating that iracing cost more than rf2.
Let me throw in this: raceroom is cheaper than iracing and rf2 will be. Since they usually sell a new car at 3eur.
They still have licensed cars and tracks. How is that possible?

I'm not sure I see what you're getting at. You could go to iRacing and say hey, your cars are $15, rFactor2 will have a licensed car for $7. How is that possible?

Very few price points are set based on a calculation of costs. Same as iRacing, as you pointed out. They charge what people are willing to pay, that's all any business can do.

I think it's wrong to link DLC directly to a license. Ongoing development means ongoing costs, even ISI had to do something at some point if they were going to keep developing rF2. S397 have changed things, done away with an online subscription, evidently going to steer somewhat towards DLC, and it's still a better deal for rF2 owners than a completely new game with paid DLC because they already have the game and a whole heap of free stuff.

@Stan You can say what you think, I can say what I think. If you read you'll find very few of us are completely dismissing arguments, we're just saying how we see it. That's what happens on forums.

Demerzel, the price of goods is driven by market: higher demand, mean higher cost, despite the actual cost of production. Business will try to find the highest comfortable point in their profit: the best balance between price and people that will pay for that price. What is the purpose of lowering a price , if this doesn't grant more people to join to compensate the loss? I tell you : none. I thought communism was a thing of the past... nobody study a bit of economy these days?

@Lazza Of course you (and the others mini-moderators) can say what you want, but you don't need to ironise or look for fights on each thread guys... just for "defending" rf2 (that we all love) at all cost, it's boring! Thanks in advance!
