Is it planned in the future, a story mode for rf2? A role-playing way of winning by learning and acquiring cars?

Its not meant as an affront, but i really hope, that S397 will put time, effort and at least...the money, into more simracing related features.

This is a driving sim, not a career sim.
"A role-playing way of winning by learning and acquiring cars" was originally attempted in rF1 but failed.
People who remember ISI_BABYFACTORY know what I mean.

I agree with ADSTA, it's a sim and time can be better spent helping modders than some story mode..

My fears are that with the lack of modding tools and support for modders, that rF2 has limited days. I have said this in a thread I created asking for updates and yes I know S397 are busy with DX11 but us modders are being left behind, the number of content that could come out quicker by modders / players are finding / will find other games to play reducing the number of modders even more.

    Your fears are off topic.

I would think that by racing online you effectively create your own 'storyline'. Realism via racing with/against other enthusiasts. :)

This is how a friend of mine sold me on Project Cars.
I spent the next 12 months playing it purely online.
Sometimes we get what we want, only to discover we don't.

Story modes for me mean more loading screens, more downtime, less wheel to wheel action.

Yeah, but sometimes it's a depressing story! :(

My biggest disappointment in racing games, and I mean ever, was The Run :
Quick time events, 'Challenges' per section, other stuff I have forgotten.

What I really wanted was a scaled down (or pauseable) race across America!
(Maybe scale highway lengths by 10% or whatever....)
Me and 99 rivals vs road, weather and traffic.
Test Drive Unlimited allowed me to race around the coast of some Hawaiian island - it took about an hour, and until I realised there was a lot of rubber-banding going on I loved it!

But that is not what Rfactor2 is about.

I've created my own "career story" using the ASR OWC 1992 Cars. (F1 cars from 1992) and Frenkys v 1.865 Historical Edition. The pace difference is accurate with 5-7 sec lap across the grid.
I created some protocols; AI properly trained and at 100%. No assists except clutch, damage on at 75%. No restarts after sector 1 ( I only allow that as the AI can be mental in T1 so I use invulnerable for sector 1). 60 min races.
I started in the Ligier. Williams, Mclaren and Benetton leave me for dust and I fight to beat the other mid pack teams.
I have set protocols that if my car is <2sec slower than the top cars I will increase AI speed. Same if I am more than 1 sec faster than my team mate.
I apply the 107% rule and the slowest 2 or 3 dont get to race.
It has been super immersive. I have been out qualified by my team mate but have managed to out race him.

I am 4 races into the season. My intitial deal with Ligier is over and the only team that will have me is Footwork etc etc.

At seasons end I will use pre set parameters to decide what offers I get.
Maybe Jordan for season 2. The top teams maybe for S3.
Next I will check wet weather out.

So it can be done outside the RF2 game engine.
I race in a high end league but simply miss the Career storyline.

    Hi David,
    Sounds incredible !
As someone with a rudimentary knowledge of setting up the private Friday night server for some years (rF1 and rF2), one is constantly trying to increase the immersion, weather, rules etc.
My question is, are you running scripts, ini files, basically how are you doing this ?
These two parts are what my question is about :
    1. so I use invulnerable for sector 1
    2. I have set protocols that if my car is <2sec slower than the top cars I will increase AI speed. Same if I am more than 1 sec faster than my team mate.
If you have time to expand on this, I will be most grateful :)

I did my own "career" also
Made F1 season 1966-1967. All cars were same, but with just different powers and also added my own team with livery (also i was able to updarage better engine, chassis, brakes for car if i scored enought points). Car was just BT20 with real livery and driver names. Was ok fun for while, but got bored.

Hopefully we could get something like this in future :)

Has everyone forgotten or just missed the fact that we are finally getting the ability to create custom championships? Why would we need a "story"?

Custom championships was the only big thing missing from single player and soon we will have it.

Thanks, in answer: No scripts or INI files.
    1) At the start of a race I will have invulneranilty turned on. I have a key allocated for that. As soon as I clear sector 1 I simply switch it off.
    2) First I train the AI in the manner desribed in these forums ( AI Autocalibrate set to "2" in JSON and full grid with say 200 laps with accel time) and once the AI are thus trained I revert to normal settings and run the practice session for the race weekend and check their pace. I get myself and the car at the best poss pace with 50 litres. At Melb, Magny Cours, Austria, and Barcelona their pace has been within the targetted parameters. So no change from 100% AI. At one circuit ( Barcelona) I was only +1.850 sec from fastest but accepted that.
The AI run better in quali mode (prob fuel load) so while P5 in practice and faster than Boutsen in the other Ligier I was P14 in Q.
In the first 4 races the pattern has been qualifying outside the top 10 but managing to finish inside the top 10.
Next race is Monaco. Its been harder to get near the top teams but my pace is around where it should be vs mid pack teams. Its going to be a hard one.

I'm probably going to try to make a Youtube series for fun.

I ran the open wheeler career there. started in a basic skippy type car, then F3 then F1. Earned cash etc.

Theres no need to turn AI Autocalibrate to other than "2".
You tested what happens if you leave this on 2?

A story mode is a typically frozen mode. When championship mode is available you can set your own story with the cars you want. You just need to establish your own goals before moving up. Who lacks imagination?

Thats the only story mode it is worth IMO. I basically hate the philosophy where you need to acquire cars and upgrades in order to be competitive and easily advance like in GT5.
