rF2 Multiple installs on Steam (Tutorial)

Hi everyone,

Apparently a lot of people don't know how to do multiple installs of rF2 since the move to Steam. As I like to do it myself and there's a relatively easy way of doing it using SteamCMD, I thought I would put a tutorial together for those interested. You can find it here:

why people do multiple installs? Is the same copy (game id?)?

Louis, in my case it's to keep the installations clean and well organized. I drive in the VEC league, so I keep one installation with just the league content and the plug-ins I use during the races. Then I have a second installation for the league, which is identical to the first, but which includes the Motec plugin (I use this mainly for testing). And finally I've a third installation for all the other content I like. And yes, it uses the same Steam ID, so you don't need to buy it multiple times.

 

2 little things about this tutorial:
1-On point 9, it is necessary to indicate in the SteamCMD GUI the path to the SteamCMD file otherwise install / update generates an error
2-Is it possible to avoid re-downloading the cache using the SteamCMD GUI?

 

Hi Danalm I keep getting this error even though I have a lifetime subscription

 

1. AFAIK, this should not be necessary if SteamCMD is in the same folder, as SteamCMD GUI. But I willcheck it again.
2. Nope, that's something S397 would have to change. Right now the download is forced.

That's very weird. Are you sure that you have bought rF2 with this Steam account?

 

Danalm I owned it before it went steam and changed it over with a steam key

My SteamCMD file is in the same folder as SteamCMD GUI and install/update generates an error.

 

Just an update Danalm I have this working thanks mate. The issue was i have two steam accounts with very similar passwords guess which one I wasnt using haha.

Many thanks for the tutorial. Just a question...would it be possible, to use the GUI for the beta version, too? Cant find atm, where to put the beta name into....otherwise, i would be fine, with my batch file, no problem.

app_update 365960 -beta v1108-dx11-open-beta validate

What a great idea @danalm , use the SteamCMD for install.

Then, this install a rFactor2 Lite version? or also "force" to subscription of full ISI&Studio397 workshop subscriptions at install? and then we have to un-subscrip from items that we don't like.

Does this installation manage your workshop updates for third part mods?

I understand that Studio397 would like to get rF2 far away from "old simulator" status as traditional fly simulators, where every step for end user needs know-how, or that's what I see with your intention of a new UI also for dedicated server options.

For these reason ideas like this proposed in your dedicated server guide, or this by @danalm for end user, would be great with a BAT to change all the process for a double-click icon, both of them. If this SteamCMD installations could auto-update workshop items would be great a BAT to do this kind of installs.

What are the benefits of doing this,is so things load quicker or a hardware performance.
I've just subbed to all the content I wanted,and installed all the plugins I needed,why would I benefit from doing this in multiple install instead
