There should be additional optimizations which should help with this. It's beta, give it some time.

    AMD FX8320 @4.0 GHz
    AMD R9 290 4GB
    16 GB Ram
    3x 22" screens (5760x1080)
    Windows 10

    rF2 is detecting:

R9 200 Series card with 1 GB Ram
    Windows 8 build 9200

    GT500 @ Silverstone

Multiview is halving or better the FPS on every setting I can come up with. My best result was no eye candy at all, 5760x1080 no PP @ 55FPS. Turn on Multiview and I get 15-20 at best.

Can anyone tell me why there are performance issues with stock content tracks and mod tracks? I tried Toban and Mills in VR with 15 cars on track and it was playable, then I tried Estoril 1988 with the 1988 F1 cars and it was stuttering like hell. Is it something about optimization?

rf2 has the strange VR performance issues seen with IL-2 battle of stalingrad. That is, on a particular setting/track/AI, screen mode holds way above 120fps (120-160, 2560x1440) where as on the same setting, VR drops frames below 90 fps. According to the steamVR monitor, it is the CPU latency causing frame drops. How is it possible to get way above 90fps on the screen, but reprojection on VR with the same settings?

    ryzen 1700 @ 3.9Ghz + 16 GB DDR4 3200Mhz + gigabyte 1080Ti @ 2 Ghz

If i'm struggling, then everyone will.

Yeah. And does anybody else have the problem that when you are in the laptimes screen (the one that should show the replay) it completely obliterates the FPS? As soon as I swap to garage or settings it goes back up to 90

This all seems like a lot of work just to race in VR. Makes me wonder is the hassle worth it?

found something interesting: use 'always on' reprojection on the steam VR advanced settings menu. This eliminated stutter for me. With normal async reproj, it would stutter even if the GPU/CPU was doing bugger all. So tick always on reprojection and untick interleaved + async

more feedback: seems like weather/clouds cause VR performance issues. With blue skies I was running silky smooth. Then when the weather plugin loaded (FSR f1 server), the clouds came in and i was immediately in reprojection.

Edit: can confirm this is the case with scripted weather too. Even light clouds rolling by increases the CPU latency by about 4ms. Often enough to miss vsync and cause reprojection. Situation gets worse with heavier clouds.

I found a plain blue sky better performance too

I truely think it's just a matter of waiting for optimisations

Rfactor 2 still looks brill in low settings but it's a fluid experience we are after ,
    roll on next updates/builds

They've done a pretty good job considering this is the very 1st beta release

PS multiply issues with old UI
    (Flickering/no replay monitor)
But bet new UI will work fine

Just did an F1 1988 mod race using the Rift, clear weather and 11 AI and it was pretty awesome. That was at 1.5 supersampling.

    I have a 5820k CPU and a 1080.

Like others I found trying rain had a big impact on performance. I also tried the Flat6 and that was a slide show in the dry so it looks a bit variable depending upon vehicle.

When you find a combination that runs nicely it is pretty awesome!

the great news is that Marcel & a lot at 397 seem to be sim racers and have VR headsets
so they are in the same boat , the future is bright for Rfactor 2397

It might depend on what we call fine then, and also on the circuit and car used

Yep just like normal, different cars and tracks require different graphical settings that's nothing new. Number of AI as well, whether your OS is running smoothly, so many different factors, all I know is on my system it's just fine :)

True, the car has a big impact on fps.
At Silverstone I can run against 19 AI in the USF2000, Nissan GT500 or FR3.5 for example,
but with the Honda NSX even 5 AI at the same track are to much.
What helps is lowering the shadows from medium to low.
There is still a lot of potential for optimization. When it is smooth (45 fps with ASW enabled on Oculus Rift) it is really awesome!

One of the Croteam (Serious Sam, Talos Principles) developers had a detailed explanation of this on Reddit:
