    I note that there are several Steam library mods which emulate the current F1 season, more or less. Has anyone tried them all, or have a particular favorite? I'm looking at the one called "Formula F1Fanatic 2017" but it's not clear whether the 3D models are older F1 cars or updated to look like the 2017 season models.

    I hate to disappoint you, but I've tried them al and its all rubbish.
    I have yet to see a proper working ("real") turbo in one of those. Some have some kind of flex chassis that is never working and so on.

    One of them, even stated out they have used the last techniques to get all of rF2's features and build to perfection.
    That same mod; engine from the starting days of rF1, no chassis.ini, just a pm and so on.
    A nice 2017 mod with drivers like Pedro de la Rosa, Pedro Lamy and Valentino(!) Rossi.........

    I mean; its just embarrassing what they put up there.
    rF1 physics work better in rF1; just download a rF1 mod and fire rF1 up.

    Thanks, but I don't think there's a F1 2017 car available for rF1 either. ;) Guess I'll just wait for someone to do a proper rF2 version...

    Yes, there are! Those are the same as the rF2 mods with just a 5 minute conversion.
    Thats the whole shame of it too......

    I have to admit; this mod IS quite enjoyable now!
    It wasn't, but it has been made (much!!) better. I had to try it again as it was some time ago now.
    Still hasn't got the new engine, working turbo or flex chassis, but it doesn't feel like it hasn't anymore.
    I really like this one now, so I stand corrected.

    OK, I guess I should have pointed out the latest version of this mod, since it has been updated several times. I installed it, and find it quite drivable (even though not supporting all of the latest capabilities/features). Also, it looks like they're going to keep moving forward with it, which is great.

    Hello Nico, good to see you are already working on 2017.
    My only issue is that, in the higher gears(5th or above), the rpm's increase very quickly to 11,xxx and stay there, as if it were a CVT transmission, or if there was excessive transmission/clutch slip.
    I have played with all the settings, and even un-installed F1Fanatic17, nothing seems to change this. Ive also set the car tuning(in main menu) to "Round 3 Bahrain". It happens with DRS open or closed. Bumps make it even worse (Bahrain for rFactor is very bumpy).

    This aside, the car seems to handle much more responsively and realistically than the F1Fanatic mod.
    Good work so far, and I look forward to seeing this project grow.
    Cheers,
    rocket

    Hi guys

    I am one of the members of F1Fanatic.

    First of all thank you for all your comments, the good and the bad, we all learn.

    We know that our mod is improved and we work on it. Unfortunately our team of modelers and developers is three people who have their own jobs and little time for the development of the mod.

    Even so we try that little by little the mod is modernized with your valuable contributions. We learn new things every day.

    Our idea when sharing the mod is that many people and communities can enjoy an F1 mod.

    Apologies for my English, this text has been translated with Google translation.

    If I were a part of F1Fanatic, I would definitely seek Nicola's advice with the physics. You guys have a good product, dont get me wrong. And for now I prefer your version to his physics test. But the way he improved the HJK OW 2016 mod, is night and day. Most notably, the Flex Chassis, and the way the Turbo is implemented in the Toque Curve and power delivery.
    Currently, his biggest improvement to this mod (IMO), is the default setup, and the numbers that represent the values(i.e. downforce is represented with degrees, etc.)

    You have all done fantastic work so far, both Nico and F1Fanatic, thank you.
    I look forward to future updates from both.
    Regards, rocket

    A few suggestions:
    Use this to calculate the weight distribution and the range:
    http://imgur.com/a/uJWVJ

    Take the fenders of from the aero and here are some ballpark figures for aero forces:
    http://imgur.com/a/lBj9X

    Front/rear wheel trackwidth (should be around 1.6xx meters, less with the correct tyres) and wheelbase should be higher:

    Engine fuel consumption is mandated in the rules:
    http://imgur.com/a/GgDqJ
    your engine is producing 955hp @ 13750rpm with fuel consumption of 70kg/h and effiency of ~77%, something is off there. Engine should produce max torque @ 10500rpm and fall of from there.

    The weight distribution is correct: 46 and 54 ( with FIA rules...45,8 and 54,2 );
    the fenders, diffusers, and wings are reporting the percentage that is automatically appearing with conversion in RF2 flex chassis file;
    the trackwidth is correct ( is about something less than 1,6....) with 2017 new tyres
    FrontWheelTrackRange=(1.54939,0,1)
    RearWheelTrackRange=(1.52105,0,1)

    LeftWheelBase=3.580
    RightWheelBase=3.580
    The wheelbase is correct and realistic.
    The engine fuel consumption is actually 2,7 km/liter: realistic fuel consumption for these modern F1 2016-17 engines
    Finally, engine power is 919 hp ( 932 cv ) at 12500 rpm, with max torque at 12000 rpm.

    I don't think the files are so far from realistic features
