Why not join us for a race this Sunday and at least try the league out? The Apex mod has its flaws, but the Simtek mod is not that good at all. The outside of the cars are gorgeous, but they don't drive well in my opinion. the attached pic tells me all I need to know.
Our League has done enough testing to have come to the conclusion that we prefer the APEX mod in its current form over the other available GT3 Mods. This is not to say that the other offerings are not good or that we will never use those mods n the future. But for the present time and this specific series the APEX mod had enough positive attributes to shine over the other mods. I can appreciate that you have a different opinion of which GT3 mod is better. We have within our league people who hold similar opinions but the bulk of our membership prefer APEX. Thank you for your input though.
Based on league members' requests it has been decided that registration will not be necessary to take part in the first two pre-season races. (Adelaide and BRNO) If you wish to check our league out without having to commit to the entire GT3 Series run you may do so by joining us on Sunday Jan 8th and Jan 15th at 1635 GMT. The server will be pass worded to keep random people from joining during the race weekend session, however, the password is listed at the forum post in the race announcement found here: http://vrc.createaforum.com/vrc-events/vrc-gt3-series-pre-sesaon-adelaide/ We hope to see everyone on track this week and on Sunday.
I tried the stand alone when it first came out and was underwhelmed. The Ferrari Challenge mod was really good, but I haven't liked the GT3 mod nearly as much. I will give it another shot... but mostly because I love that Huracan and desperately want it to be as high quality as the ISI Vette or URD cars. I'm not so close-minded that I am unwilling to give mods another try if there are updates. Part of my disappointment with that mod is that I wanted it to be the best and it didn't live up to that for me.
I did some races in race2play with the apex mod. I respect your opinion, but I would like to register why I will not race with this mod. I have 10 years of racing simulators, I've been racing with GT3 cars in other simulators too, this apex mod has three serious physics problems. One is the lack of precision in corner entry, even adjusting the setup to understeer in corner entry, this is not possible to completely resolve this issue. The second is, steering wheel go lighter the faster you are, which doesn't make sense. And the other problem is weight transfer, which is very aggressive considering the weight and power characteristics of the cars, making very difficult to save the car on some oversteering situations. In my opinion, in the physical side, I think that the Simtek mod is better.
Firstly I must state I am one of the most critical of this mod,...........BUT.................. The Apex physics at least vary from model to model which many do not very much at all. It isn't just a matter of personal model choice or favored field of view which is the major driving difference in some mods. Yes, the Apex mod has major flaws, but it has variation. They also offer "feel" through the wheel which many do not also. Perhaps you should drive a different Apex car to see if it suits you better?? Or do as I have and fix the physics that you see as an issue for yourself.
No mod is perfect, they all have their pros and cons. There are many things to consider when it comes to choosing a mod for a full series in a league, also in our league. We (VRC) chose the Apex mod because it's well balanced for a league use. There is not any big bugs in it, cars feel different and their bop is more or less good. I also have confidence in the modders making it. Apex mod car models aren't questionable which can't be said about Simtek if I understood correctly. We chose Apex over URD because it's free so we won't be limited by the paymod factor. Apex has also better selection of cars imo than URD. I had much fun in our last series with this mod (previous version) and I have all the reason to believe that the upcoming series will be even better. Check us out during the pre-season and join the series! See you on track guys -Matt
Will be joining on Sunday i think, will see how I get on and will maybe join the series too.. I like the times of the events, races maybe could be 45 min instead of 30, but still looks lieka a lot of fun EDIT: Cant download the track using GetMod, always get "TCP Error" when like 85% done
I see that it's not the first time: http://vrc.createaforum.com/rfactor-2/gt3-download-from-server-error-tcp-ip/msg1000/?topicseen#new We try to sort that out if it's still not working. Getmod has been working just fine previously. We include download links to our race event threads: http://vrc.createaforum.com/vrc-events/vrc-gt3-series-pre-sesaon-adelaide/ (board accessible for members only) -Matt
We have 17 registrants currently. Thank you all for joining us If you are interested but still not sure if you should register to the series, come check us out during our "open for all" pre-season. -Matt
Post Updated for Pre-season race at BRNO Adelaide race was a great success with great racing all around and with many different skill levels. Up next is BRNO.
The server is getting a lot of visitors even during the week. Really good to see! Good group of guys too. Imagine how many more there will be when Yoss gets me that sweet Audi R8!!! (I know you read this Yoss!!! haha) Seriously though, if any of you are new and nervous to join online races, come join us during the week for some casual laps and you will see we are all super easy going and there are no wreckers or egos.
BRNO race is tomorrow. This is the last pre-season race and the last chance to try the series and league out without registering. If you are at all interested in racing with us on Sundays in the points series I would suggest coming out this Sunday at 1635 GMT
So you are relying on AI behavior....? Version has it´s flaws but the cars drive well and that problem doesn´t exist on normal driving AI have lot´s of bugs right now but Version 1.1 will fix everything bad the mod has!!
