Wow. I take back all my comments about a third Road America. There is a pride in doing something properly. Just a tiny z-fighting in the Hawk billboard sign at the bottom of the hill near the pit entrance. Otherwise it is glorious and could only be made better with the items you already mentioned as possible updates in the future.
Thanx! Track is great. The detailed satellite image really helps. Hopefully the DX11 will solve the shadow issue.
Track looks fantastic. I'm for billboard trees as well. Or as an alternative you could render the 3d trees with the normal maps and fiddle with textures so the billboards of them match the 3d trees. Then you can do more faraway trees billboard and leave trees close to track as 3d. And use the rendered billboard tree as a LOD for the 3d trees. This way the self shading wouldn't appear out of sudden and far away trees won't look flat. Also shadows from them can be made of invisible shadow objects, simple X-shaped sprites, this way it would take down way less FPS.
I haven't activated my rF2 on Steam and I would like to extend this period as long as I can because I don't want to download a bunch of content I will never use so for now no Steam workshop. Btw if somebody is curious here is how the botching started (I started the track on 4th August I think). First thing to do is to lay down the track as perfectly as possible on the satellite image. You can see the whole process on my youtube channel.
Interesting use of the word Botching. In American English, Botching something is like doing something incorrectly. If you missed the apex of a corner, you could say you Botched that turn.
Nothing to be sorry about. I just thought it was interesting how different we comprehend certain words. Thanks for the track, I've put a-lot of miles on it this week.
So when my game goes down from 60 to 40fps, that is the hit from the 3d trees right? I usually don't have such problems... Apart from that, it is a great effort and I like it very much.
Funny because it doesn't help much on my PC... maybe 10-15%, not more. And the 3D trees without shadows look ugly.
