Well, I loved it when playng rF1, I learned how to drive on rF with them and after that I downloaded a lot of mods. Will be a great help have them back as free example models for modders and selectable models for the "training school" hinted on RD interwiev...
Look at AMS by Reiza, fictional cars are near to real ones and are great to race!!!

    Are you sure about this?
Free DLC is supported, can work as no autosubscribe option for who wants a lite install...
Here an example of moronic free dlc: View attachment 20860
Free DLCs + New DLCs will give you a nice looking page of content wich will help promoting rF2 and will help sales too...

Is there any indication for the timeframe for DX11 - was sort of expecting an announcement to accompany some sort of roadmap / reveal.

They just have to separate the free DLC in packs like stock cars, open wheel, european tracks (or road and oval track pack), etc

What I see with Assetto Corsa and iRacing, is that sometimes you would like to join some championship or even some friends for a race or two and then you realize that you are missing some car or track, and that is many times a showstopper, so, you end up buying almost all content (expensive) or racing a lot less (damages community).
So, basically thats what I would not want them to do: having "paid for" content.
I think people will race more if they don't have paid DLCs.
An online subscription, maybe a bit more expensive than the current one, would be a better path forward in my opinion.
The lifetime subscription is very incompatible for a continually developed product, it makes sense if you release every two or three years a new version, but if not.... so, maybe they should start calling it rf3 and release it with various enhancements.

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but when rF2 goes DX11, will all our 3rd party mods have to be redone? That would be a bummer.

    Doesn´t make sense at all.
You can´t put out the amount of high quality content that the community wishes without payed DLC.

Very unlikely, it's been said by Marcel (in the RD-Forum i guess), that all mods should be compatible.

I think those are all problems that are solvable. Personally I think that having tracks as paid dlc is not a good thing. It divides the community into haves and have nots which devalues the dlc track as well.

With cars you don't get this division of community issue if you do the dlc smartly. Having the dlc cars available for everyone to see (race against in online, not drive yourself) would mean people can safely buy them and use them all the time. A server owner can add the cars, leagues can use them and players can drive any car from class of cars. Just make the dlc cars so that they only work in multiplayer. So if you don't have a dlc car you can still drive in the same race as the dlc cars (and only online) but you can't drive it yourself. It is technical problem that has been solved many times in other games. Main issue is probably with how to share the graphics and physics of a car without making it super easy for people to just move couple of files form one mas files to another and have the dlc for free. The way I see it it is not a complex issue to solve as long as you are willing to solve it.

Also I don't think all content from now on should be paid dlc (if paid dlcs is the route isi/397 decide to go). If you make a gt3 car pack for example it makes sense to give one car for free to boost the number of people playing with the gt3 cars overall. At least in that way everybody can drive one car of that class so people who bought the dlc (the minority) have other people to race with too. Urd I think also does something similar and iracing you can drive against cars that you don't own as long as you own the track and the car you are driving yourself.

As for tracks in the current environment I don't think selling non-laser scanned tracks would work. It is the standard people expect from simulators. I'd guess we'll see with automobilista how selling non-laser scanned tracks goes. Not laser scanning is obviously a lot cheaper way to make a track but is the quality you are getting above the quality of well made mod tracks that are free?

I bought the life-time license at first day of sales. And I tell you I don't mind to pay for a new version of simulator or for incoming DLC at all.

I spent the equivalent of a rF2 lifetime license in one or two days of go-kart racing including all costs so the fun which rF2 brings to me is very cheap.

Agree on the scanned tracks thing. It´s indeed a standard that I expected from rF2 from day 1!
As for payed car-DLC´s: I am sure that this will come anyway. If it will work or can be made workable with rF2 that you can see them on track but don´t own them and therefore can´t drive them (pcars has that too), is a good question. But:
I personally believe that rF2-users work a little bit different here as for example console racers.
I think the percentage of people who buy all that stuff will be significant higher in rF2. Us "hardcore-simmers" seem all in all to have lesser a problem with higher or additional costs/fees.

Look at the flight-sim fans! It´s a similar kind of community. And look what one plane in DCS costs!
And look at the equipment that people here are willing to buy, for thousands of Euro´s/Dollars!
At least I don´t see the problem that people won´t buy high quality content (cars AND tracks!). They will!
Do someone really think that rF2 will turn into a casual-racer like pcars and AC is? As long as they don´t invest many millions of Dollars, the main-audience will be league-racers, like it is now.
Therefore the goal for rF2 now must be to pull over all the lost online/league-racers that play other/older/more expensive titles (you know which one I mean:) ), not the average casual-gamer.

    I don't want Studio 397 to:
    Remove licenses of existing content.
Turn rf2 into a pay for "iracing/EA style" DLC ****fest that is gaming nowadays.
Cater to the masses that scream the loudest, that scream they know what is best for your game.
Remove my ability to mod by forcing DX11 only.
    Negate my lifetime subscription.

Only way for dx11 to prevent you from modding is that your OS is windows xp or older. Vista and newer windowses support dx11.

The issue generally is that you either focus on having lots of people who pay less. Or have fewer people and expect them to pay more. Or in some cases like raceroom, simraceway or iracing where you try to get everybody to pay a lot more. Iracing is probably the only one of these that can actually justify their costs (going into such detail costs a lot of money). But iracing took years to turn profit. I'm not sure if iracing has even made its investments back yet. As for raceroom it has gone through bankcruptcy and simraceway is dead too. Going the high cost route doesn't look like the good option to me. Even if rf2 players were willing to pay a lot more I doubt that would bring in new people. The way I see it rf2 already tried the high cost route by taking out key feature from the game and offering it as subscription.

Those who bought lifetimes in 2012 have of course gotten their moneys worth if rf2 has been what they wanted. Paying more doesn't seem to bother them. But for new people if you need an 80€ just for the base game and then the DLCs there is a big risk only the lifetimers will see that as valuable proposition.

I don't think the goal audience should be league racers. League racers are small part of the sim racing niche. It is far better to focus on sim racers as a whole. And better to try to get more people playing the game instead of focusing milking the few active ones.

Yeah, what a nice idea, to sh*t on people that kept the simulator alive. Where have you been? On Assetto Corsa? Seriously...

Well, i just hope Marcel is a smart guy and don't follow some ideas here (not sure if they're real rF2 fans), because you can never forget people that kept rF2 alive during those years. League racing was what kept rF2 alive, and honestly is the most fantastic way to enjoy virtual racing in my opinion.

Also, don't forget people that bought lifetime and don't go on ideas that will split community, plan very well what you're going to do... rFactor2 is wounded and need to recover!

    Cheers!

In the early beta days ISI made it clear the lifetime license was only for the lifetime of the product. Since ISI is no longer actively developing the product that's dead for anyone that bought the game before the Steam version was a thing. Where Studio 397 would really run into problems with that would be the people who bought a lifetime license on Steam which hasn't even been available for a year yet. Killing that would be a really good way to anger a portion of your customer base.

Studio 397 needs to find a way to make money from this undertaking or there won't be any reason to spend money upgrading the game to support DX11 and VR. It doesn't seem wise for them to count on selling new copies of rFactor 2 to support that. Personally I have no problem paying more money for new racing series that are at the same level of quality as what ISI has released. What I don't want to see is individual cars being sold as DLC. I'd also buy track packs as long as they were ISI quality but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one as track packs seem pretty rare as DLC for other games.

Another thing I don't want to see is Studio 397 not releasing a new game based on the rFactor 2 game engine.
