Since we own rFactor 2 because it's the best "sim", I thought we should say what we "don't" want Studio 397 to do:

    For example:
    • Don't add fancy eye candy and animations and ignore performance and improved physics.
    • I would like an animated pit crew but not if it replaces realistic performance on track.
    • We don't want waving flags, if we lose a better tire model, etc.

Please don't turn rF2 (or rF3?) into a console game ... there are plenty of those, and they generally suck for realistic behaviors ... if we want that, we'll play those games.

What else are we concerned about?

What else? I dont agree with your points, id like waving flags, and we already have them, just need better ones. I want to be able switch off ALL UI elements with a button. including the top left icons... racing drivers need to keep an eye for marshalls, so should we. One of the first things you need to learn about a track is marshal posts positions.
This is too subjective all in all... suggesting what we DO want and than devs picking from it what is doable or a good idea is much better way of doing this

I believe you can turn that off in the .plr file. I know it was there in rF1.

Why would waving flags mean a worse tire model?! Doesn't make sense to me as people who are coding tire models won't be doing flag animations!

Personally I hope they don't get "too" involved with the community, by that I mean they need to give RF2 their own unique identity as they cannot make the perfect sim for each individual, so they need to keep on track with their own ideas for the game and take our ideas/wishes when it suits them...not us!

A few of the main people at 397 are also Iracing members

Iracing are not into gimmicks & offer a straight to the point racing sim with great physics

Iracing does not have rf2's ffb or all the dynamics
( sound , lighting , visual tire dynamics, weather & more I can't think of right now )

Flags are not really even worth mentioning as its trivia ,

397 just needs to polish what is already a great sim & bring to dx11 & VR
( I actually think graphics as there are -are fine I'm just after VR compatibility )

If everything that is currently in rF2 was debugged, functioning correctly, and optimized with as far as DX9 allows, would players use it for a year while Studio397 works on new stuff?

I would like to see a "Relative" screen like iRacing got implemented. TrackMap has something similar but way behind the functionality of the one in iRacing.

OK, I was taken too literally, I think.

I only meant the we'd want a focus on realistic simulation improvements, not making it "prettier" to compete with Forza, etc. with eye candy at the detriment of a better simulation experience.

It's not a console game, and few of us would have bought it in the first place, if it was.

Because of Marcel, and others at Studio 397, I have hope they will make it a better sim, not go in the console "game" direction. I just hoped to emphasize the fact that we want a better simulation, not prettier game.

And to the comment about "what do waving flags have to do with a better tire model":
Do we want programmers to spend several hours making the flags wave better, or spend those hours improving the tires? Time is always a limiting factor.

Generally, we will be much more impressed by better tires, I think.

I'm totally with you Jerry. If RF2 starts going the way of a console "game", it will be going in the wrong direction. In my opinion, RF2 is a true "sim".
And it's great. Eye candy is good, but not if it takes away from the realistic simulation. Or maybe I should say if it takes away the simulation experience.

Well DX11 will improve performance overall and also add to the simulation experience!

I would like to see current things not working properly fixed first, like camber with the tire model and tire pressures. Then I would like to see rules completed with a little better AI for offline customers as well (I race online but they need to cater to both). Then Do the development for DX11 and VR or have 2 teams working to achieve things faster as it is a big studio!

Those are my short term opinions.....Animations and stuff like that should be added later as they will add to the experience, but should not be tops on the list. :)

    Cheers!

I don't agree with any of these points because having one does not make the other bad automatically. Having these things in no way turns it into a console game, you'd need to dumb down physics features for that which wouldn't happen even if they directed 100% of their focus to other stuff. Duh

There is nothing exactly I don't want them to do. I'd like if they went beyond the focus on driving simulation and also simulated a full experience of a real life race weekend, which means all the animated stuff you said there and many other extra details lol (because you know tires don't change itself like magic) :p but ofc I want other stuff like the clutch, hybrid, turbo, etc

Well I say don't touch the tyre model (if anyone's concerned about the rF1 model being a lot of work to implement I think they should stop worrying - it's already available in devmode, and I'm sure enabling it on the single/multi side wouldn't be a difficult task), and don't implement specialised features that cater to a particular vehicle or form of racing without having enough flexibility to allow the community to make it work for them.

The first post does have a tone of "having these features means losing these other ones". rF2 is already a fantastic physics base, I can't see that changing or any sign that's a possibility (allowing the old tyre model is being blown out of proportion, and even that's only an idea at this stage). I understand a lot of people want it prettier, but moving to Dx11 doesn't automatically make that (or better performance) happen without a fair bit of work, so I'd hope no one particular area is given nearly exclusive treatment while nothing else advances.

Taking over rF2 and then turning it into another game wouldn't make any sense - those other games already exist. So I don't think we have any reason to be too concerned at this stage.

I don't want to be forced to open up a text file to change a game setting. It's not the 90s anymore.

Personally I'm not really opposed to many things. Sure I don't want consolitis ruining things but I don't think that is the direction they would go. I don't have any really strong opinions and I don't really care if 397 wants to add something that I personally don't see an absolute priority. People want different things. Whether that is drifting, old road cars, animated pit crews, fancy looking menus that lack usability but look beautiful...

I'm kinda opposed to having separate gui launcher thingy though. Having the sim and the launcher inside one program is imho much better approach and allows far more flexibility to do all kinds of things. A site which has statistics logging, server browser, skin management, mod database, guide database for rf2 modding, hotlap ranks, blogs and news from isi/397, online challenges, team management would work better as an additional site instead of being the gui

Also I hope 397 will move away from the isi style of end user experience. Needing to go deep into some undocumented config files just to setup ffb for example is not good for anybody. Things should be documented and available from the game.

I don't really get what you are saying. That subscription already exists. You can't play online unless you have a subscription. Maybe you are being sarcastic :).

I know one thing 397/isi should not do. Listen to any advice coming from that one blog...

Lifetime license is like a season pass for those yearly subscriptions. It's like saying forza doesn't sell paid dlcs because you can buy a season pass. Please think for a second. Like it or not you are or have already paid for those yearly fees you are suggesting rf2 to never add :D. You just paid one big sum instead of many smaller ones.
