I have never done a track before, but would like to try just for fun together with my son. This what I have done so far: - Google Earth: I outlined a track and saved as a KML file - At www.gpsvisualizer.com/elevation I added elevation to the KML file - 3ds Max: I installed the script from www.klaasnienhuis.nl/2012/09/import-kml-files-in-3ds-max/ - 3ds Max: I imported the KML and it looks fine, see attached picture What would be the next logical step? What do I do with the track? Do I convert it to something else? What is the smartest way from KML and forward? There is so much information out there, I am overwhelmed and do not know where to start. I have some experience with 3D modelling and CAD (20 years ago, and not with 3ds Max). But I would really need some hints please. View attachment 19831
have a Google for tutorials by Freew67. Will definitely give you some pointers Sent from my SM-G928I using Tapatalk
Thank you, I will! Anyone know a tutorial that starts with an imported KML track including elevation?
Hi To begin you can follow this video. The only difference is that you already have the spline. You just have to convert the object you have imported into a spline. for this try to see if this helps you. Unfortunately I not able to help more because I use Blender.
Thanks, this feels as a good start I think: "Basic Track Creation - Part 3: Loft Shapes" by flash2042 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r66zmby4egA Thanks a lot, I will try to watch the video and read the instructions tomorrow (late night here now).
"This script needs a register file to work to receive the file I ask a small donation." How much is the cost for your software? I cannot tell on your web page?
As it turns out the imported KML data was allready a spline object. This explains how to loft with a path (KML data, shape of track) and shape (line, width of track): https://knowledge.autodesk.com/supp...4CCA4890-83E8-41C6-9FFB-0A3959194CCA-htm.html
