While it is 100% true iracing has the most online players, i would also qualify that by saying it REALLY depends on what cars you want to race. If you like Stock cars or a Mazda Miata, then yes...tons of races. Most other cars have sparse servers.

That is true in all sims, sadly a lot of amazing real-life cars get ignored in games due to their difficulty. rF2 doesn't have that many "current" (recent tech and standards) cars especially high-profile ones to get shunned online, but in AC it is almost impossible to find something in the 1986 Lotus or the Sauber C9, or even on certain amazing mods like the 787B. Put in a learning curve and most will steer clear.

Those steam numbers would equate to 1/3 of ac and Rf2 users are on mp and a 1/4 of IR are on mp the rest of the users are playing another game. Given the time IR and AC have been on steam Rf2 are not that bad.

sorry but the multiplayer of rfactor 2 is the worst of all in simrace. 1. There are no players online 2. If u find a server with ppl online u can t join because of randoms mods cars/tracks. I don t know how to download it form server but if it is possible to get the mod from server don t work for me. 3. I have to pay 12 dollars for this plus to get the lan modus. Lan should be free..... But ok there is no other nextgen sim with ai in lan so i have to take this and its ok. Yes and why ppl are allways talk about league ? For me league has nothing to do with normal multiplayer. Every game has his own league and this mean fix times. But for me this has nothing to do with the Multiplayer from the Game. For example gamestock car has a big league community. So if u are multiplayer first or online guy just go to iracing in my opinion.

Agree. I love the Ruf rt12 but good luck finding a race with either it or the f40 step 3 in AC . I only singled out iracing because everyone says its the best online multiplayer, which it is, but didn't want people to sign up, buy $200 in content only to find out that there are few, if any players in a given series. It happened to me and it really turned me off iracing.

If you go back to the OP's original question on multiplayer population, access, etc... (much as I like RF2 and know the core software has improved a great deal)...the easier for MP is AC.
I also have no interest in any sim comparison debate beyond the original question.
I currently own RF2, RRE and AC so I'm not guessing.
In just about every case thus far as long as it was not a special league, non-KS track or car, I was in an AC session in less than a minute...usually with multiple drivers.
To OP...check to make sure you are not accidentally filtering servers, as I've never seen them all empty.
I'm not going to go into discussions about wrecks etc...although I've had some very 'clean' exciting races with it.
As with all sims, 'clean' depends on who you run against and what their objective is on track.
That's not unlike all other sim titles out there.
As to why it's easier to access...
In both cases if content is not installed it has to be... prior to any MP access.
Properly setup RF2 servers are supposed to allow auto download to achieve this but ... and it's a big but you may be required to install 3-5 or more of each to join a session.
In AC you have no such option as auto install.
You must manually seek out, download and install that component but ...and here again it's a very big but you'll need one specific car or track to join.
That's MP ease in a nutshell.
I advocate owning what ever you like...this is just a bit of my own experience with both.
It's not meant to influence your decision either way.
    Hope it helps you.

Do not expect to have quick pick up racing in rF2.

Below is how usually rF2 server listing looks like (screenshot was done on 16:00 GMT+0):
    http://i.imgur.com/4v0mAqn.jpg
Servers were listed by the amount of players, there were 2 servers with >10 players, one was locked (most likely league) another one running non latest build version where I wouldn't be able to connect either.

Below for AC (screenshot taken at the same time):

Usually there are 2-3 servers (pick up mode) each with ~20 people running GT2/3 races. If lucky one can find servers running more "exotic" cars (when I made the screenshot there were 3 servers each running Ferrari 312T, LaFerrari and Ford Escort cars with 10+ players).

    How about you stop shilling?
The point still stands that you can quickly find pick up racing servers in AC and start racing (non-booking sessions). There were at least 3 full servers running GT2/3 cars and few other combinations where you don't need a league/booking/password.

I have included another screenshot (23:00GMT+0):
    http://i.imgur.com/5tUuYME.png
All of the visible servers in the lists apart 2 Nordschleife sessions were running free to join Race sessions (showing of booking servers disabled).

What are you even talking about? Did you forget ripped AC Nordschleife to rF2? Either way AC developers are highly against ripped content and community is after laser scanned tracks instead of low quality rips.
As per above you recently accused Spinelli for criticizing rF2 physics, yet you keep on going to praise rF2 and demote AC or pCars where possible as usual.
Are you privileged to criticize things while others cannot?

Hey ! I would be equally incensed someone does the same in rF2.

Nords, I rather support "our modders" and our Nords.

But that, Monte Carlo, all that has done is butchered great terrain.........pitiful........ lol ;)

3/4 of you dont even know what Isle of Man and Dundrod really felt like, the authors interpretation I mean ,heck I would say the convertors didn't either because all the terrains from all the rips are pitiful ! lol

As for Spin lol it was just banter, I say the same thing in room to him, I will say " oh go play your AC will ya ! " hehehhe .................... it is all jokes.

I do not want to take either side of rF2 physic theories for 1/2 a decade........ it is what it is.

    It was rhetorical.

That is a big issue Kunos is creating for themselves, I will not be supporting their DLC packs (have 1 and 2) until they are either very cheap on sale, or they progress towards allowing DLC cars on non-purchasers sessions. Still, there is a very busy multiplayer, although like in rF, it's usually the easy to drive or massively popular GT series.

Having a game shipped with a few cars in the same series does make a big difference.

Now take a look at rF2 screenshot and apply the same logic.
Two servers (from 4 in total) that had 5+ people were running EGT mod which is payware. Either way there is no choice to race even if you had all the mods available. In my first AC screenshot you can find 2 nearly full servers wit non-dlc GT2 quick pickup racing sessions.

However I am highly against AC method for DLC compatibility.

    Saturday (yesterday).

A lot of AC servers have "assigned slots" for leagues. When racers are assigned, plyaer count is allways full even when there is no players inside, I saw this when I tried to race in an AC league 2 months ago.

While in rF2 Steam users are not shown in matchmaker.

    Just saying.
