I am working on a mod atm for rf 1 and 2 and have found some of my content to be used in a recently released 3rd party mod for rf2, this new mod has been encrypted presumably by ISI and also contains models from Grid Autosport. Now that the mod has been encrypted I am guessing there isn't much I can do to protect my content, but does anyone know of what I can do from here? I have tried to discuss the issue with the makers of the mod who claim it isn't mine, but my modeler knows 100% that it is mine due to flaws with it. I tried contacting ISI to request it not be encrypted but I guess they didn't receive it or didn't care about my claims. I have put hundreds of hours into my mod and still have a long way to go, but hate seeing my work used by others without permission especially since I haven't released it yet. I also find it interesting that ISI would encrypt a mod containing cars directly exported from Grid Autosport.

Any advise on my situation would be appreciated.

edited to add 3rd party to avoid confusion of ISI making the mod.

I first wanted to ignore this posting. But....

do you say that ISI has released stolen content as their own work?

That would be a heavy accusation.

And i don't want to start asking how do things you are working at, find their way out of your office/home.
For me the whole post is a little bit confused.

Very very confusing post.. with some very serious accusations. Why and how on earth would ISI steal and release part of your private work, and why would they steal from Grid Autosport..?

I think he's saying that a 3rd party mod uses MAS encryption and that MAS can only be encrypted by ISI (which might not be the case at all).

Sorry if this has confused people, the content was stolen by a 3rd party and encrypted by ISI.

I don't think that ISI would ever do that.

And the question "how did the 3rd party get your 3D work?" stays.

And the rest would have to be regulated by lawyers, if you don't get another solution with the 3rd party.

One of the former beta testers admitted that he decided to share it with them.

OK, so how can you encrypt a MAS file without getting ISI to do it? I have searched around and have been unable to find any other way.

    XOR works both ways.

XOR? I have only been able to find that it is an encryption but haven't found any programs or interfaces which I can extract the MAS.

The only thing you can do is seek legal advice for your area.

Did I miss something, or did you effectively start an illegal conversion for a car mod containing someone else's work (grid), and are now worrying about someone else stealing your stolen work? Again, I could be very much mistaken.

My mod is being scratch built and will only contain our own models. The 3rd party who are using our model without permission are also using Grid models and have had the mod encrypted.

    To be overly clear:

My mod - in beta testing - all original scratch built content.

3rd party mod - all stolen content including using my model and also Grid Autosport models. This mod has been encrypted. My content was given to them by a Beta tester.

Yeah man, I feel for you. That's pretty damned low. ISI can't be involved, not unless they put locks on everything, so it's between you and them

Ah ok then. Well in that case yeah, seek a solicitor for their opinion on it?

I fear the only way, if no friendly solution is possible and with in my eyes only a little chance to be succesfull, will be to go to a lawyer.

    With the encrypting thing.
I remembered a hint in the ISI rF2_Packaging_Tutorial.pdf and have taken a look into it.
    I found this line:
But don't know if this Option ever has been implemented in any way.

We encrypt MAS files for people all the time, but I ask you - how do we determine the provenance of every mesh file or texture map which comes our way? The fact of the MAS file being encrypted is irrelevant. I could 'deauthorize' this specific MAS file from even loading, but that wouldn't stop the perp from just re-MASing himself without encryption. The real problem is the unethical behavior of both the former beta tester and the modder.
