Okay, this challenge is way overdue so let's get it rolling, shall we.

As per this poll, the wonderful Spec Miata won the honor of being our "reasonably priced car" for the Tiger Moth Test Track challenge.
I'd like to give a huge shout-out to ISI for creating Tiger Moth, and of course a great big thanks to PlickBadger and MikeeCZ for the awesome creation that is the Spec Miata.

So here it is...... [drum roll]

    Rules:

-This is a hot lap challenge

    In this challenge you have:
1 out lap (starting from a standstill) to warm up brakes and tires.
1 hot lap to set your best time.

The lap time you post here will be that of your 2nd lap.

-The car of this challenge is the Spec Miata v1.32
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/qpclsdu01r6n3rv/SpecMiata_v1.32.rfcmp

-The track of this challenge is the Tiger Moth Test Track v1.02
    http://rfactor.net/web/getfile/tiger-moth-aerodrome/

The default setup is the one we'll use in this challenge.
This means that nothing can be changed or altered anywhere within the "garage" menu.

Good stuff Hexagramme, I'll give this a "spin" tomorrow, sounds like fun.

EDIT: It might be an idea to specify the ambient temperature (and humidity?). ;)

    Cheers,
    Justin

I'm looking forward to seeing your best lap time mate. :)

Yeah, I was not sure about temps and humidity... Does it actually affect the cars?
If so, then yeah, I'll add it to the rules.

I have no idea to be honest. I assumed that temperature would. I know wind has no effect at present, but couldn't remember if humidity did or not.

So, is the timed lap starting from a standstill like the certain TV program we are basing this on? Or do we make the timed lap a flying lap after the outlap?

I can't see that specified anywhere there, so I'm just wondering.

Yeah, maybe I put that part too far down in the block of text, sorry.
I'm just gonna bump it upwards so it's easier to spot.

I thought it'd be cool to just have one warm up lap and then a flying lap.

Of course I'm open to suggestions though, if some of you guys have ideas that could improve this challenge. :)

    Good stuff mate.
Yeah, I'm gonna try out Shadow Play too now. Have been wanting to for a while but never got around to it.
My Mirilis Action capture software doesn't work with rF2 anymore for some reason (I suspect it doesn't like the 64 bit exe) so what better time than now.:)

So here's the first time then.

And not a very good one at that lol. ;)
I mostly did it while trying to figure out the best ways to capture/render etc.
That didn't go too well either! ;)

    Shadowplay is s*** btw...

So go ahead and beat my 1:28:246.

Still waiting for those times to pop up here. :)

You don't need to do a video or anything too bothersome.
Just do the hot lap and tell us your time. :)

Sorry, not had time to put any laps in yet. Hopefully tonight, I'll be able to lay some laps down, providing I don't get held up at work. (again)

Just uploading a video of my run now (this will most likely take hours). Pretty awful driving, I will definitely give this another run soon. Lots of places to improve, very tricky combo, but great fun. Thanks for organising!

EDIT: OOkaaay, I just realised there is a real road preset specified in the rules, I just set the session conditions up on the quick weather options, which greys out the real road preset options and it defaults to naturally progressing. I did set the real road rate to static though, so I assume I was on a green track Not that that will have any effect on my time, I'll still be sh*t even with some rubber down and wont have an excuse to fall back on then. ;)

I will try again tomorrow to be sure. :)

EDIT: Vid of my run, for what it's worth. (Still uploading  )

Good time man! I'm sure you'll improve even further when you give it another go tomorrow.

Yikes maybe the rules are a bit convoluted for such a relatively simple challenge.
Hopes it's okay though. But yeah, get some rubber on that track and give it another go.
I look forward to seeing your video(s). :)

I'm way slower than you guys, but had something rolling. Shadowplay took a dump on me, however. I want to record "live", so I'll post as soon as things are sorted out ;)

Watched both your hot laps, very good stuff indeed.
Bacharach and Gambon are such magnificent corners, and there's so much time to gain there.

I'm sure someone must be able to break into the 1:27's at some point, right?

Live recordings are cool. I think I'll do that too next time I give it a go.

Keep the times coming guys. :)
Remember you don't have to make a video of it if it's too much trouble.
All I care about here is participation. :)

    Edit:
I added the current lap record in the first post at the top.
I'll try to keep it updated.

    Edit#2:
Just ran a slightly quicker lap. I'll post a video soon.

A slight improvement, down to a 1:28:215 now.
A 1:27:xxx should be within the realm of possibility, if I can get Crooner right, and maybe be a bit more brave through Bacharach and Gambon.

    hi all!
ok i dont like setup rules but here is my time 1.27.508(st lock at 29 and coast 50) and i manage 1.26.883 with my better setup(more stuff tweaked, mostly toe in/out,dampers,diff,camber,caster,ride height, fuel 3 laps).
do you realize you need to change steering lock if you have 900 deg wheel, basicly you need to change lots of things on this car(i dont like base setup on this car)
i will post video tonight and setup if some one need it(this setup works better for me and i didnt spend much time to make it so there is more improvments to make..)
    cheers

I didn't get a chance to run last night, but I will try tonight.

@kiko0602 - steering lock of 29 is not accurate for a de-powered steering rack with 1008 degrees of rotation (typical of a spec miata)

    Here's the math
    Turns to Lock = 2.8
(optional setting for folks with wheels that do more than 900 degrees)
    2.8 x 360 degrees = 1008 degrees
    1008/18/2 = 28 steering lock

(default setting for folks that have a 900 degree wheel)
    2.1 x 360 degrees = 756 degrees
    756/18/2 = 21 steering lock

    steering lock reference thread

However, if you have a smaller diameter wheel like a G25, then bumping up your steering lock will feel more natural.

The rest of your setup tweaks are personal preference - spec miatas are one of the most tweaked race cars in real life. Everyone uses a slightly different setup :)
