    Fellow Forum members

I was hoping to get some input on a replacement video card. I have come to realize my Radeon/ATI HD5800 is not up to snuff to run rFactor2 with adequate graphics. In reading countless threads throughout the years, I realize there is a split between the NVidia and Radeon ATI camps on which is better. I have generally gone with ATI/Radeon video cards, but it appears the Nvidia cards may be better suited to running rfactor 2.

I have an i7 920 processor and run triple screens through a triplehead2go. I can get 60 or fps with the HD 5800 on most tracks, but do not have the settings set very high.

Anyway, I cannot and do not want to spend the money for the latest and greatest video card, but want something that is a step up from my HD5800. I was even thinking of getting two video cards and linking them (I think it is crossfire for Radeon/ATI cards). I was looking at either the HD7770 or 7750 or the GTX560.

Can anyone tell me if they close to each other or one performs better than the other(s) for rFactor2?

    Thanks for the input.

What is your budget? The performance between AMD and Nvidia equivalent is very similar after Catalyst 14.4 driver.

I would not recommend lower end cards for SLi/Crossfire.

I have the GTX560. I run it at 1680x1050, with 16x CSAA (improved version of MSAA) and HDR on. These are my in game settings:

With these settings I rarely drop below 60fps (except for the start) even on my ancient CPU. I don't know how your HD5800 is doing, but this was a very nice upgrade from my HD4850.

My settings are similar but for the three you have on high, I have on Medium and get about the same performance as you.

Increase your budget a little bit and get a GTX760 or R9-280 or R9-285.

What xAcid mentioned is for sure much faster but if you small on budget
get you a 750ti OC for 130 Eu, don´t know what it cost in dollar.
Capable of running rF2 with good visuals with only 60W(have to tweak a little bit in the .JSON-file though).

    750Ti 3 screens ?

We talking about GTR or rF2 ?

How do people expect on minimal budget to run 3 screens on next gen car games.

    I don't get it.

I have a GTX 750 TI OC. I just had a quick look to give an idea of the performances. I'm using an I3 4130 with 8Gb memory and a single screen(i have two but only use one obviously).

Everything at max in 1768*992 i get about 41 FPS alone in the Dallara on the old Indy layout when i click on race. Along the pits/start/finish straight line the FPs is about 40+ the rest of the track it is about 55-60 FPS unless i'm facing the pit area then the FPS lowers slightly but as low as 40.

With your current settings i get 82 when i click on race, between 77 and 85 pits/start/finish straight line and between 105 and 90 all around the track.

    I think you're looking at a 280x right now.

If you have a 5800 series video card looking at this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html none of the cards you listed would give you a performance increase from what you have (the low end on the 58xx is the 5830 high end is a 5870)

if you have the middle card 5850 look at the cart on the site and go up at LEAST 3 levels (4 if you really want to see a difference) and that would be the level of the card you should get to make it worth your time to upgrade. On the Geforce side you would need a 660 -760 level of card (600 series+ for triple screens), on the AMD side that would put you at a R9 270 type card.

The other thing to look at is the type of ram (ddr5) and the amount the card has... for most of the cards today 2gb or more will help with loading the textures of the cars.

I know you said you want to spend only $100 or so but that is not going to gain you anything (might lose) but if your trying to do 3 screens then it takes a lot of video power to run that setup.

Go with SLI (two linked graphics cards) if you use 3D. The framerate increase in rF2 and GSC (and probably other sims, I can't remember) is literally almost doubled. Doubled framerates in SLI (compared to the framerates of just one of the same cards) is referred to as 100% SLI scaling. In 2D mode though, there are issues with rF2 and GSC especially with triple screens (multiview enabled of course). Therefore - for just 2D - I would get the fastest single GPU you can afford.

If you can wait a few months, you should see some big price drops on the current top-end line of Radeons. Ia few months, a non-X 290 should be a pretty nice price. If you want NVidia, then a non-Ti 780 should be less expensive then it is now in a few months when the 980 Ti comes out.

Well I got GTX670 OC and I would not even consider 3 screens, the settings I would need to drop make me shudder.

omg I could not handle going back to 1280x1024 pixels no way in the world sweetheart ! :)

I guess that means 5760 coops ? and " average" settings and sitting in pits with no cars lapping.

So you get a 250-350% hit.

No wonder I don't use it , I thought it was closer to 200%

My settings are virtually full apart from below.
    no HDR
    high shadows
    optimal shadow blur
    8x AF

With those settings I lucky to get 100-150 in pits

To get 300 my rF2 would look horrible.

Well i at least 25% behind you in power, you have i7 cache as well gives a bit more if you overclocked same speed as me.
