What are the rules in a race regarding DRS and the FR3.5? Do you have to be within a certain time to use DRS in a race? Thanks.
Race 1 in the series this season they apparently had 350 seconds worth to deploy when they wanted. Tim said rules weren't implemented in rF2 for it yet. No idea when we'll be getting that, might not be anytime soon? I guess that means there are no restrictions on its use in a race just now? Is there anyway to disable it for everyone?
Tim suggested using a vmod with a specific rfm for a ruleset that would disable DRS. Problem is I never did that myself yet... I'd find it easier to open one of the MAS files and change a line somewhere...
Okay, many thanks, actually making a vmod seems rather easy then. I assume RearFlapWetThreshold=0.0 would completely disable it (i.e. it's denied even on a dry track) while RearFlapZoneSessions=31 would govern it's use only in DRS zones even during practice and qualy. Does that sound correct or do I need to testalot?
Not allot, just create a test vmod, 1 mod 1 track, change rfm, see what it does. if you get the hang of creating vmods its pretty quick. The zones are questionable though, I think its just for the entire track as the mod does not support zones yet. as far as I understand. so 1 (test) would allow drs only in testing, the other sessions not. or at least that's how I interpret it without testing it
I changed my allcarstracks.rfm to value 31. What then happens is that Quali and Practice, it takes three laps to enable it, and can only be used in the zones - no need for a leading car though. That's a good compromise, no constant Jensoning....
Yeah but that's the default way? or even as ISI said currently the only way as there are no rules set. But GCCRacer is talking about zones, no drs for 3 laps, I assumed that was not possible and tbh it sounds pretty interesting. I would love to set no-drs for the first few laps.
It is possible on some tracks anyways. Portugal and Bahrain?(the desert parking lot) it is possible. Don't ask me how to do it because I have no clue but I've raced online with those two tracks today and that's how it worked. You even had to be within a certain distance from the driver in front of you to use it after three laps. It's cool.
Yes, if you set the value to 31 and the track has no zones then you have no DRS at all. I like it, this way it's available for overtaking but much less button freenzy in quali.
This is frigging cool guys. we need more details onnit I reckon. fist of all which tracks? Or how can we find out which tracks support them?
Well, so far it seems all offical ISI tracks (didn't test the very small ones, but Mills, Portugal, Drummond...) have DRS zones, even if they are not marked trackside. Of course Malaysia and Silverstone too, Non-ISI Spa also. For these tracks, with my setting I made: Qualy/Practice: DRS seems to be available from first lap one, or at least has no lead car requirement, but only on the zone straight. Race: DRS enables the third time you pass the detection point, requires a <1 second distance to car in front (Formula 1 rules). Hockenheim by Tommy has DRS enabled after the first lap, not three, or I made a wrong test but that's what seemed to happen. For me this is a big improvement over the "Press anywhere, anytime" Quali/Practice because to be honest I don't like hyper-tech gadget racing like that (even though I know Formula 1 does the same for P and Q). I like DRS as overtake and tactical chance "have to get into 1 second window" and that's what it does. Properly metered DRS will also be nice to have, eventually but right now this works for me.
Just tried that track and I have DRS available in all sessions and all sections so maybe they have that wrong. I'vr mostly been running at third party tracks where they only have 1 or 2 DRS zones and in Race only if 1 sec behind. Try Racerfactor Melbourne for example
I am trying to add DRS zones to ISI_Montreal. I have added this section to the GDB. This should make the whole back straight after Casino and then the start/finish straight DRS zones only. Code: RearFlapZone { MinimumCrossings=2 TimeThreshold=1.0 DetectionLapDist=2749.0 ActivationLapDist=3161.0 DeactivationLapDist=180.0 } But when I start the race, the FR3.5 still seem to have unlimited use of the rear flap all over the track.
