Hi, I have been using rFactor 2 and rFactor for a long time now and this is the first time I post.
I recently changed some things on my computer and went back to my old settings and now rf2 wont launch and hoping someone can help me.

Things I have changed and changed back from last time rf2 was working for me.

I changed to a computer monitor from a TV monitor and went back.
I went from Thrustmaster softwear to Immersion software and went back.
That is the only thing that has changed and I was using Build 660 already before I made the changes.
The game did work when I made the changes before I went back. Except with Immersion software game slow down really bad.
I have deleted the Immersion software now.

I have tried reinstalling rf2 numerous time now.

When I use launcher nothing happens now.
Error message when I try using Troubleshoot compatibility.

It try's to apply applies Windows xp service pack 2 then...

"This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "windows".
Reinstallation the application MAY fix this problem."

I have Windows 7 installed on my PC.
I have tried running everything as administrator.

    Can anyone help me out?

    Welcome to the forums :D

    What you can try is:

    - Install Lite over your existing - ( don't uninstall previous )
    - Run the launcher with Admin privileges
    - Check your Windows Event Viewer to get extra info about what's going wrong ( if available )
    - Use dependency walker ( http://www.dependencywalker.com/ ) to see the exact path of the dlls needed

    I can't seem to post a long reply I don't know why.

But I had about 8 missing dlls. Gpsvc.dll ieshims.dll and a bunch of API-ms-win-core etc...

    What should I do next?

I also tried to apply the fix in this link but no dice...
    http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.php/19409-If-missing-*110-dll
    Not the right dll file?

    Thanks for any help!

IEShims.dll should be in your "Program Files\Internet Explorer" folder, it comes by default, if you don't have this, then reinstall or upgrade Internet Explorer.

Gpsvc.dll it's a bug in Dependency Walker, it's pretty unlikely rf actually requires it.

And be sure to run rf2 without using compatibility options like xp sp2. Just left the admin priviledge enable, nothing more.

Hi dandar yea I have those dll files in the place you said to look. Also I am only checking admin privilege enabled but no change.

I tried running build 590 and now I get a different error message instead of nothing happening before. "Runtime error!"

Ok then try to reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86), it's the so called runtime.

You could also install this version in parallel Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) wich is currently used for some plugins.

Note that both packages are x86, no matter if your windows is x64, rfactor uses only the 32 bit versions.

After the instalation restart your machine and then try to launch rf. If you still have issues I would recommend a system reparation or reinstalation.
Seems to me like something got jammed in your windows.

I tried all of the mention above but no luck. I also tried running run and pressing f3 and deleting all my rf2 registry but nothing as well.

I don't have histrory long enough to go back to before I made the changes so I cannot do a system restore.

I don't want to have to reinstall my entire windows for rf2 if possible so I may take it into a specialist tomorow to see if I cannot get it resolved without having to come to that.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Just wanted to let anyone who's interested know that I finally gave in and purchased Windows 8.1 since my 7 was a factory dvd and now everything works back to normal again. I kind of wanted to check out directx11 anyway so it all worked out.
