Do you not get out much? Things are named after dead people all the time. That's what a "tribute" is.
Would be creepy if you where still alive . 'Hey that walls got my name all over it.' Nice touch I feel..
I get out enough to know how and why track corners at real race tracks are named after real race drivers. Those are tributes. This is just a sim and just a fantasy track, though, so the authors can do whatever they want, even if it is not in a historical spirit.
Just in case you are running out of names. Here is a list of possible "candidates". I guess impressive is the wrong word, so I just say it's a long list. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver_deaths_in_motorsport
That page makes me wish Mills was the length of something like Targa Florio. All corners names are in, and even thinking about replacing one of the names ... it's become more than simply 'a texture' .
I hope it doesn't become an argument when people discover their "favourite" dead driver is left out, because it's just silly. Might as well put Sean Edwards there then, at least he was a sim racer as well and more connected to some of us that way.
Indeed -- instead let's take a few moments to remember everyone. And you're right, I probably never even considered Sean Edwards -- a little bit too connected. I'll have to make up for that somehow ...
Being honest the concept, while a nice tribute, is very depressing... I'm either going to have a few laps around the new Mills and leave it at that, or maybe edit all the textures out and repack for my own use so I dont have nightmares e: would an infield 'monument' not have been a better idea? Or name garage/stalls after the drivers?
It does add a special atmosphere to the place. It demands required respect. After a few laps, it does become the corner that carries that particular name that adds to the ongoing history of the track. Sometimes, I feel I should have gone for a few more ... 'positive' corner names (like 'Old Paddock' where the S/F line used to be, 'Shuber Curves' for building the rF1 track, and 'Juliano' for adding the quad-apex section in the rF2 version). Driver names did come up frequently in this thread though: http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.php/7134-Mills-needs-some-turn-names-66-Monaco-turn-names.
So you're saying naming a track feature after dead drivers is bad and living drivers are okay? So, in real life, Hermanos-Rodriguez is bad (Mexican drivers who died and race track named after them posthumously) while, say, Moss Corner at Mosport and Andretti curve at Laguna Seca would be okay? Seems like a rather fine distinction to me.
I've no issue with it at all, but if you have a track where *every* corner is named after a dead driver it becomes a bit....... dark. Of course, we only (have seen) 3 corners here, but the assumption is more corners have a similar theme. I would personally prefer some single monument or memorial to those fallen
Lol trust you to find a negative in tributes, you sure the curbs aren't too clean for you dear?!? (Rhetorical question of course!)
