This, nothing to be excited about. IMO Gjon wouldn't have posted an update only to release the new car track 4 days later. Hopefully I'm wrong.
I think that LFS devs have got that negative feedback quite a lot, maybe even from reason, but maybe mostly of poor management of public relations with community. Now LFS got new multiplayer system, no lag joining and only player thas is lagging gets lag effects, this of course increases pressure to rF2 multiplayer system to have at least similar features and it would not surprise me if that kind of work would be done while doing skin download system, which also might increase time until getting enough well working version that is possible to release for testing. Whatever anyone thinks about LFS, one thing is sure, their multiplayer system is quite a top of what racing sims have. rF had not bad multiplayer, but I think it was not quite as feature rich. I just wonder how rF2 is going to handle MSRP age ratings with automatic skin download? I mean if user makes skin featuring naked girls smoking pot while shooting kids, there must be some filtering or maybe it is possible to cover with disclaimer? Also there are some legal challenges that I don't quite fully understand, but which came to my mind. If someone makes skin that has illegal content, copyright infringement, racists content or child pornography and automatic skin download stores that to your computer, now all of sudden one is responsible of holding such illegal material and could be charged from such, in theory, probably not in practice, except in Finland where little girl downloading single album illegally is chased down. All this is of course very theoretic and unlikely to happen, but with law and legal aspects, I believe it is best to prepare to worst. Also these points are not just rFactor related, but same applies to any title having automatic skin downloading that stores skins to user's computer. Way skin sharing works in LFS is that you send files to LFS server, where there is legal notice and limitaitions what you can upload, skins of offending nature can be then removed and user given banishment if needed. If rF2 system works so that it uploads files to host and shares there to other users or shares directly to other users, then it might be difficult to have so much of control over these things. What is planned method of handling these wrong kind of skins? Server admin needs to contact ISI with proof to get user given penalty or perhaps no control over such things and only disclaimer? Probably something not many has thought about, but there can be more challenges than just implementing skin downloading as there are again lot more to consider when designing such feature.
A fair point, I used to spend a lot of time in Forza and one of the members of our club suddenly proudly posted a paint featuring Swastikas He got booted in short order and removed from the club, but it just goes to show it does happen.
One thing I'm looking for is some temporary way do decrease real road evolution rate. At least some .ini file parameter on dedicated server for the time being. It's pointless to use dynamic weather in online races if a few cars can completely dry racing line as they go. We can enjoy real road doing some offline laps, but in actual racing, we're pretty much missing out on some of the most exciting new features. I know it's still a test version so this accelerated rate comes in handy, but it's been a year now, so perhaps some temporary solution would be nice while we wait.
Will not the implementation such as physics development tool introduced in Technology page be planned? I think that quality of the behavior of much Mod improves because that tool is implemented … .
To Gjon or Tim Progress... Will we be getting the full use of the new features eg: weather and Tyre models b4 it goes gold ??????? Not worried about all the content i understand we probably wont get to try all that out and you would want a few surprises for gold.
Can you expand what about those features you're asking about? With weather, do you mean spray, or something deeper?
^ sorry Tim i just mean these to be completed to a finished state as im not sure what is actually left to finish. eg spray, water on windscreen, whippers working correctly eg flat spot tires, wear...ect...damage and collision?
From KnownIssues.txt: I too hope that these are things that we will see some progress on in the near future.
Unfortunately that's a big "I don't know." I suspect a lot of those things will get knocked off quickly once they decide to.
The plan is to have something before xmas, yeah. They've done more builds in this past week than normal. Skins are giving them a headache or two, but still working on other stuff too.
Great news Unfortunatly I am not able to play it much at the xmas time :/ But good to know we are having some progress.
