My next order of business is to replace all of the spectators. I've spent some time digging around the web and have found some very suitable shots.

I also thought it would be fun to use photos of community members where possible. Send me your pics, if you have them ;)

Criteria for photos are along the lines of:
People in photos should be visible from head to toe.
Group photos are best. 3 or more, I'm guessing. This is not set in stone. I could make a group photo from individual pics.
As preserving the vintage feel of the course is paramount, it's best if people in the photos aren't wearing anything that screams "modern" (current logos on shirts, etc)

If anyone would like to submit pics, email them directly to me so this thread doesn't turn into a vacation photo slide show :)

There is also a card board Caterham somewhere on the track.
I don't know if it is intented to be a card board but it would be cool to replace this with a real car model.

The new version look fantastic. Thank you!

One thing though - I am getting dust kicked up by my tires on the tarmac (all the time). Anyone else seeing this?

Yes. Unfortunately, ruins the track. But even with all the dust, the frame rate is still high!

If I could reduce the amount of dust, I'd do it in a heartbeat. It's a cool effect, but from what I've heard it's framerate killer in multiplayer with more than 10 people on the server. I think SR4L tried to run a race once and had some problems because of it?

That's easy. You just have to remove the "Reaction=dust" lines for the road materials from the tdf file.

Yes, race was a disaster, when more than 5 I think people joined everything slowed down :p
DJC knows more about it, he is the wiz kid among us.

    That would be cool.

Yes, the dust should only appear when you are off the normal asphalt surface. Tosch, could you detail what the settings should be for no dust, or are those in your example above?

    Thank you, Tosch!
I knew there was a way to do it through the code rather than opening up the whole model. Just wasn't sure how or where.

Worked like a charm, Tosch. Thanks again for the guru insight.

In everyone's opinion does the removal of the road dust warrant a V.12 release, or should it stay stored away on my HD?

I don't have the tools (or even know where to begin) to further develop Targa Florio.

A v.12 update would be very well regarded, at least by my ;)

If I understand well, this removal will make Targa fit for Leagues, so by all means please do release it :)

Instead of releasing a whole new version just for that one edit you possibly could create an official update, since the tdf is packed in a small mas file of its own and the ICON; you can create an update replacing that one mas file and just set it dependent on the previous track release. Could save you some uploading time, and everyone else some downloading time.

That was actually the approach I tried for my own personal use, but merely replacing the tdf ended up breaking the course. I decided that re-packaging the whole course was easier than repairing the file path issue that popped up.

You make SURE I know when you guys run a race on this course :)

I remember helping out on the rF1 version of this track. It was a communal effort, and everyone put in so much work to make the track work in rF1. I can't imagine all the extra work to make the rF2 version work proper.

Back then, I remember I upgraded my PC just to be able to load the track into 3DStudio MAx. But somehow we managed to get something out there for the community to enjoy.

I applaud anyone willing to take on this massive track. And I thank you.
