Looks like he can barely see over the dashboard :D.

Reading all the food posts here, I'm just happy I don't live in America.

wow, i can completely relate to what he's saying from the 1st day i removed all carbs in my (high fat zero carb diet) over the last week. My thoughts is not only a lot clearer (less foggy feeling....like less daydreamy and less responsive) but it has been consistently so for the entire week. I have more energy, i don't feel tired at any point during the day and i wake up feeling extremely refreshed even if i had only 6 hours of sleep (before which i used to need around 9-10 hours and only sometimes would only sometimes achieve that refreshed feeling upon waking up) and i sleep really well never waking up during the night.

It's quite a surreal change to how i think and socialise with people, yesterday was the first time i left the apartment to go out for dinner (avoiding carbs still) and where i was not that social a person and the people (my sisters and brother in-laws friends) who knew me from our countless other dinners previously, made a comment/observation on the change in my willingness and want to engage in conversation and without me mentioning what i had done to my diet for the week. Interesting.

What Campbell is saying there makes sense after reviewing the science of how sugar affects the body, as too high amount (even the rice and noodles i was eating before) would cause a blood sugar spike giving me high energy at first followed by a crash which is due to brain thinking your starving so it severely lowers you metabolism which not only make you physically fatigued/tired but your metabolism affects everything in your body including your brain and hence brain function! (if you want to know how and why sugar carbs causes you brain to think it is starving which causes your metabolism to drop dramatically....watch this short video, only 8 minutes long....

CORRECTION: I POSTED THE WRONG VIDEO, NOW CORRECTED...SORRY

Your very welcome Magus. I also just shared (in the post above responding to racefreak) an 8 minute video that explains the hormone part (which you would have seen in the 2nd of the 2 long videos i asked you to watch) which is excellent to share with others who don't want to watch 3 hours of video (lol) to get the key information on how sugar spike is the directly responsible for making people over eat more foods whilst crashing their metabolism causing severe weight gain (leading to obesity around the world). :)

this is why i mainly only buy foods that are unpackaged -fresh veg / fruit -lean fish & meat (from the butchers)

somethings have to be in package like bags of flour / herbal teas / some herbs i cant grow fresh or buy fresh

once one cuts processed foods out it becomes very easy to avoid them, Ive not drank a fizzy soda's or ate at fast "food" places since I was about 14 ( at 14 I started to question everything and started to distrust etc)

( even brought a pizza oven for making scratch made pizza using wholemeal flour for the base everything so fresh & tasty & no E numbers/flavourings/colourings/MSG/sugar/overuse of salt .....shocking whats in the ingredients of those terrible pre-made ones in the super market ) I have a bread machine to make the bases just 45min's and the base dough is done

and let me ask you this Adrian (but i'm 99% certain i know what your answer is going to be):

Because of your diet of absolutely non processed foods (which are packed with a TON of sugar), even though you eat carbs but from fruits and veggies (like potatoes but i guess you don't eat a ton either unless your exercising hard) you feel great. But unless you can remember times of your life where you wear eating processed foods (with lots of sugar) then you probably always feel great and energetic so there is nothing to compared it against in your life, lol.

Now here's the million dollar question....for you to be active in your daily life (i.e. not to sit down and be a coach potato) is it a case of conscious will power or is it completely natural for you because you find that you effortless want to be active?

I look forward to your answer but i already know what it's going to be......you effortless want to be active so it's not a case of forcing yourself to exercise....you feel a natural desire to do so. Am i correct? :p

My point being, i'm achieving that state of mind as a result of my new diet. I WANT to be active and feel full of energy. It's an incredible feeling. I just did some exercises for the first time in a week (for 15 minutes) and it felt effortless whereas before this diet change experiment (to test the science) i would get tired after only 5-10 minutes and not only reduce my effort considerably but my muscles would cramp. I then proceeded to measure my heart rate......175 beats per minute! Holy S***! And i wasn't even tired after it. I use to not be able to go higher than 130-140 from the even short 5-10 minute exercise and then feel so so fatigued. It's ALL down to carbs!!!

I've never felt this great in all my life, this is so amazing! :D

    Hiya drripper

I wouldnt say I'm 100% a food monk but Im pretty good I guess, its no effort at all in fact I prefer to be this way.
Our tastes change, for instance eating fruit ...even an apple taste very sweet to me (& very nice ) I can taste things very well but I doubt I this would be the case if I had the sadly now typical western industrial diet.

My father was very strict when we were growing up he never allowed sweets/biscuits/processed foods iin the house (me and my brothers felt hard done to at the time but I really feel lucky because of this now) my mum was traditional in her cooking, at christmas she made from scratch a few treats which I really remember being a big treat.

Think there was only one time I went through a phase of eating terrible food when I was in my teens and had a part time job, with friends I started eating some fast food and buying a few chocolate bars but this only lasted a couple of years -I do remember feeling slugish and not good in the mornings during a period in my teens but cant remember if this was the same time as the bad food period.

I feel good in the mornings I never have a problem with weight ( although I think I eat to much sometimes ) I'm also a little hyper active this is why I run about 4 times per week (approx total 30 miles) & in a running club, I also do x3 mini workouts to music in mini lounge (only last 14mins), I enjoy running and if I missed I'm ususally in energy overload lol, I'm racing competitively in an event tonight at the stadium (saff.lane) a 100 lap relay event & looking forward to it.
I believe normal eating (natural unprocessed foods is normal to the human body) and staying fit is an ESSENTIAL part of a good life, I also find generally that my friends that lead an unhealthy/unactive lifestyle dont seem to be able to focus or discipline themselves to well, I believe itheir lifestyle is partly to blame & so do they but they dont seem to be able to do anything about.
Someone I know (at my run club who leads a good lifestyle) insisted to me that a lot of peoples brains are so cracked out on effects from things that are put into processed food ( E's MSG sugar-addictions & what ever else we dont know about that the friendly food execs are feeding them) that they are basically hooked & cant see the wood for the tree's,
I thought he was being a tad over the top -but I do wonder.

Keep up with you fitness ( dont overdo it at first ...this is a very common mistake ) and its good you have the noddle to take a step back and recognise how things are not quite right with the generally excepted way our population consumes.
If you make decent eating and being active a normal routine in your life it will pay back bigtime in more ways than one,
I'm sure I would have never been able to do things Ive done had I'd been someone who was a bit flumpy & tired a lot of the time.

P.s re.heart rate, be careful at first ( 3 months ) dont push intensity etc,
but your max heart rate will be something like 188 - 192 beats per minute peak approx
-thats when youve trainned it, it will be tad stubborn for a while and max (& make you feel as if you weigh another 40lb ) at a lower level, after so long it will seem as if it just unlocks and will go higher thus so will your performance.
(guessing your 20 to 25 ? ), when I'm in a run race (running hard) my heart rate stays in the 170's
if it goes into the 180's its only a matter of 30 to 50 seconds before I feel what seems like a weight on my shoulders and my pace slows a bit (back down to 170's effort level)
I wear a garming 620 with HR strap whilst running
