I need to make some changes to body model, because I've found some differences between the latest model (6h Spa 2012), but the paint goes on and this is the actual pont.

    Hope you like it :)

Nice to see the progress, but there is something not right, can you see what it is?

Very high specularity/too bright specular map?
Improper smoothing on the rear wing wing side panels, presumably from not detaching them properly?
The window looks like it's fully reflective?
The front splitter or something thereabouts doesn't cast a shadow?

That is the question :) And a nice experiment by the way - see how many things you can do wrong and still have people saying it looks great.

That is, of course if you had the same thing in mind that I've noticed :)

Actually I don't mind people saying it looks great. It's certainly more beneficial to have people praise work-in-progress than to have people continually criticizing such work.

We (as a community) lack a way to politely voice well-founded and constructive criticism. When snarkers like certain people here get involved that gets ugly fast and just turns people away instead of improving any mod.

While mianiak wasn't directly being constructive (yet), that was at least the most fun way to hint at criticism I've seen in a while. I love guessing games! ;)

Yeah, I don't 'normally' act like this, only once before when I left the timing gates out of my test track I put up back in the beginning. But sometimes you have to separate yourself from the elements of the community and create corners and edges to work around. I'm a team player cause that's the most successful way of achieving anything and in this case, Tommy, you have great potential to be a big benefit to this community, but I see this one important enough to make people think. It's the difference between 3d modelling for show and 3d modelling for games. What renders well in max (or any other 3d app) doesn't always render well in a game engine. The more you get to know how the game engine works, the easier it is to make models for that game.

So we did have the same thing in mind :) I knew tommy86 didn't yet begin any serious work on smoothing groups so I didn't worry too much, but I was wondering if others will see it.

I wrote some thoughts on the subject a while ago, here's the link: LINK

And I agree with posters above - it's good to see constant progress on this car :)

I don't know :) I think there's a lot of work to do to finish and start testing it seriously, but it's going on pretty well as first mod :p

Btw thanks all for support and comments ;)

The cars is looking very good !

I'm sorry I didn't think of this sooner  but one way to approach mapping the model is to imagine that you throw a large sheet over the car, then you trace all of the edges of the car on the sheet, and then you flatten out the sheet and that is how the mapping is layed out. This tends to keep the various areas of the car adjacent to each other and makes it easier to paint.

because it is also Audi R18? ;)
I think it would be really bad if models will not be similar.

But as far as I remember, tommy has confirmed once, that it is his work from scratch
