Would like the fake engine start in pits removed please , this was also a dislike in rFactor and many people requested its removal then, but apparently it was hard coded , Does this mean it's still hard coded and here to stay?
+1 Really would like to have 'live cockpit' ( like Nkpro ) + related sounds ... It would add a very great immersive feeling to the sim
You know what would be really cool? You have to press (I) ignition first, and you hear a key turn/jingle. Then HOLDING (S) to start, you could have have a realistic electric starter and turnover based on factors such as engine type, age, temperature, air mix (choke), throttle pumping and dashboard hit and/or swearing. Oh, and make the headlights go dim if they're on and the starter is pushed.
What is the reason for this request? Why do you want it changed? Is it the sound of the starter or the fact the car automatically starts? I'm not saying your request is not a valid one, I'm just curious about the reasoning.
because it moves the game closer to reality. Even GTR1 does the job better I also vote for this feature
I like this idea. But i think some people (and very many!) will find such behavior 'overrealistic', so we need some kind of driving aid like 'automatic engine start'.
Well that is why rFactor has Massive Text files with hundreds of OPTIONS.. Make it an option is all we ask. I don't want to force anyone to do anything. But I do want the option to make it as over-realistic as possible. And also I don't think such a thing can exist in a simulator.
I don't find the fake engine start as troubling as the fact that once it starts it hasn't really started. This has always bothered me with sims. That is, you hear the engine fire up and rev a couple times, but you don't have control of the car yet. If you time it wrong your engine will die and you have to go thru the whole process again. This can really affect a race. When i hear the engine, i expect to be able to drive. This was/is worse in some cars than others and is especially egregious in the 60s cars.
I must agree. For me, it is as much about the simulation as it is the driving. NKP has that part correct.
Yes, sometimes you hear the car start up, and rev a couple of times, but the tach is still at 0, and then finally comes to life once you're given control. Other times, you can be pulling out of the pits while you're still hearing the startup sounds.
Agreed. The starting of a car is handled poorly in most sims. Just turning over the engine with the starter and the clutch up should at least get the car moving forward or impede the starter motor.. SIMULATION damn it.. All aspects. Still waiting on carburetor simulation.. Torque curves be damned.
Agree! BTW, Note, that need of starting engine has been implemented yet in GTR1 (ISI's engine based sim)
