In photoshop it would appear at 255 but in game it should almost never reach that high. You are simulating it in a world with lighting rules that need to work. So in the ABSOLUTE perfect lighting scenario in game it is possible a part of it can hit 255 but not over the entire sign. Shadows, reflection, atmosphere, light sources would cause it to fade and change.

    EXAMPLE:
    Coke Sign in Photoshop
    [IMG]

    Coke Sign in Real Life
    [IMG]

Granted that is a faded sign but you can see how the absolute color of 255 isn't realistic to render in pictures or games trying to look like pictures aka real life. White can never be full white, red never full red, blue, green etc.

This "fading" is partially caused by sky reflection.

Many games nowadays still only support sunlight reflection on most materials, so they will have this "raw" appearance. In reality, all materials have different reflectance and this adds a lot to overal "feel" we get when looking at them.

What you see on photo above is a reflection of grey sky ( it's a cloudy day ). It's also less apparent on left side of photo, since you're looking straight at billboard, while at right side of photo your viewing angle is different and therefore reflection strength changes.

I've done similar reflections in rF1: LINK - angle in this screenshot is higher, so difference between left and right side of billboard is even more noticeable. Also, my reflection is noticeably blue, since we had only partial cloud cover in rF1, while your photo was done during overcast.

Maybe a sign of how realistic rf2 is, I recall Ferrari fiddling with their 'red' on cars so it would be perceived as the right colour on TV's. Even going as far as painting them in a more orange tone to make up for colour balance on television screens.

But, probably not even relevant, just wanted to put it out there :p
