I mean the bright red color on the car has the problem of being within 3% of 255 and has no variation. It is just a solid block of color. Here I highlighted the red within 3%

This is a problem with rF2's rendering engine and seems to rely heavily on the HDR profile and track.

Can I ask why a flat surface using the same polished color would have variation?

Well it should never be a 255 color is the thing. Once any part of an image (any image rendered or drawn or a digital photo) hits 0 or 255 there is no where to go from there. So clipping occurs. A one or two or ten pixels area that can be considered "ok" but this is a huge portion of the car. A dynamic color range compression needs to be used to take the absolute highest and lowest and make them less high and low (slightly +/- 5%) to prevent such issues.

    +1

It is not an rF2 specific problem, it is something you have to consider when creating textures for hdr games. You should not use the full color spectrum, because you need some "space" for hdr to react on the texture.

Here is a reference texture with rgb values noted at the bottom (done in PS).

The same texture ingame on shadow side. Measured RGB values on top.

The texture ingame on the sunny side. Measured RGB values on top.

This is the main problem why converted tracks with not adjusted textures look so strange.

What issue? What clipping? Can you explain to me so I know what to pass on, if anything.

It's typical of certain people. Tosch posts a great explanation to a longstanding issue and someone jumps at the throat.

Not to stray too far from topic but..... my question is what if a logo is that color? Or blue or green but that far out (at 255)?
