I'm actually really liking the Meganes. The are a lot of fun to throw around corners and drift But I really can't "feel" that they are FWD drive cars. Compared to something like Race07 where you really notice the difference between RWD and FWD. Anyone else feel the same?
Yeah, they are very understeery sometimes which makes them feel like FWD and of course the production car is FWD so I know exactly what you mean.
yes the meganes in rf1 and rf2 have always been rwd drive, hence when you turn off tc and boot it with some steering lock the ass comes around that would not happen with a fwd
Well that's surprising. For me it felt a bit like a 4WD. You can easily do 180° off the line but you can also go very early on throttle, for example out of T2 a Sepang.
I've driven the FWD cars in the Race07 series, and unlike the Megane, they all push hard coming out of a corner, whereas the Megane can get loose, and in a quick way, on corner exit.
I think the short wheelbase contributes to some of the stability and understeer. I don't have any facts to back that up with but that's what my gut tells me. Possibly even the low profile compounds again not sure I think I need to go on to YouTube and check out. These cars in action
Right..final piece in the puzzle. Not ever seeing race or knowing much about them I was struggling with the "WHAT THE" component of these cars. Saw they where RWD in the game but every know and then they behaved....weird. Mid Engine would explain that...puzzle solved, back to breaking it and kicking its ass again
A shorter wheelbase usually contributes to better turning, so it should be completely the other way around. But the Megane Trophy car has more or less nothing in common with the road version, making it a fully featured race car from the ground up. It has a very low mass center and the engine as well as the gearbox are placed longitudinally behind the cockpit. That's where the stability comes from. For me, the Megane Trophy in the beta drives exactly like I'd imagine it would in reality. It steers very direct and has lots of grip thanks to the fully adjustable race-spec suspension and slick tires. When lowering the rear wing a little it doesn't understeer for me btw, it's the most fun to drive for me at the moment.
