Like is says in the title, somehow my player name is set as 'unknown'. I can change my flag but there seems to be no opportunity to either create a new player or change the player name. Anyone have a solution?
To change your name in game, you must do: - windows bouton, execut, write "%appdata%". - you're now in Roaming folder with a .rFactor folder in. In this folder, open rFactor.name file with notepad. - change your name (first it's your firstname, second your lastname and last your nickname) - save and put the file on Read-Only, it's essential ! Tested
this works . really just edit it down to your nick and save . one line . then after you have saved the name file go to properties of the file and check off read only . when you fire up launcher your full name will still show but in mulit player it goes to your nickname that you saved . this will probably be fixed but its a good work around
I see people with only the first letter in their nick. The way to change that is to leave line 1 open and put nick in line 2 and leave line 3 open. I had the same, now it shows correct.
It´s working for me now, I just checked "Remember" when logging in to my online account, sounds crazy but it seems like this was the problem
This is okay workaround for now. However, please note that we have, tentative, long terms plan to allow people that run dedicated server to enforce real names so that "wreckers" can be identified. The inability to pull your real name from this file, the ability to update this file by setting it to read only, or any inconsistency between the data in this file and what we have online my cause you issues in the future.
I don't see the point of Real names. If we are logged, we have a user-id, right ? So "wreckers" could be identified by their user id and be banned? Edit : we could just lie about our name on registration, forcing people to show their real name is just annoying...
Yup, but not for the moment. I was not well enough warned that my true name could be displayed online, that's all i say. And i'm wondering which information a server can obtain if they can force it to real name. Only read the file ? or ask your auth server ? ****ty things happens in "real life". And i already know what i will read on rFactor servers if someone google my name... (And the "wrecker" point is obviously not a good argument at all...)
That's what Jeremy was saying. The server could ask us, and your machine, and if both don't say the same, you might not be allowed into the server. Obviously this isn't an issue now... But could be. It's not about real names, it's about you using the same one all the time.
Then why not just display the username that we registered with? Right now it is using my real name and I dont really like this..
