So we can expect more performance when all cores are being used ?

I hope RF2 at release or soon will be able to use 4 cores or more! :) My cpu just has it way to kick back the little bugger plays the games I have and keeps saying is "feed the beast punk"! lol

Question Tim at this point does RF2 even need to use more than 3 cores? Cause with a quad cpu there is still ALOT of headroom to play with..

If there are things that the GPU can pass to the CPU, then utilizing all of your cores should result in better performance overall. I for one however prefer to keep at least one of my physical cores free to do system stuff and not be bogged down by the sim.

    Lol at the pic.

Still got nothing on me though, I managed to ressurect 12 years old thread on ten-tenths.com forums
It was fun to see people responding to the same thread and remembering their dial up connection and how it cost them money to post a reply lol.

Looking forward when rF2 start utilizing the other 6 cores that are doing nothing on my system.
As future CPU's will not get much faster per core but will get more cores.

^Weeeell, that's the theory. Which makes sense, but...
I remember in 2005 common predictions were that in 2012 most people would have 8 or 16 core CPUs, highend being 24 or 32 cores and that most apps will be optimized for that and that frequency will stick low, under 3GHz. :)

Whereas now it looks it won't be until 2015+ 8 core is actually useful and intel/amd will search for ways how to get more performance per core, outside of increasing ghz of course, by increasing and adding more levels chaches, optimizing floating point units etc.

The huge problem with multiple cores is that it's not exactly easy to make apps use them.

I find the whole +fullproc thing interesting.

Who wrote it? Is it an ISI thing or like a standard part of some protocol? Where did it come from?

ASRX uses it still, I think rFactor came up with it as an fix for the original release of rF 1 only being single core. Seem the originally wrote rfactor to use both cores but something was wrong on MS' side. So they wrote something to turn processors down to one core and then when the fix came out they had a built in update/fix so to speak.

    from 1.040 release.

Fixed dual processor timing issues by forcing game to only run on one processor. It can be overridden by using "+fullproc" in the command line, since Microsoft has now announced a fix for dual processors which is available only with Windows XP SP2.

rF2 runs natively on two threads unlike rF1, so there is basically no need for that command anymore. One thread for physics and one for the rest.

I'm not interested in using it... I was more interested to know the history of it. If it was a Microsoft command or ISI or what.
