Hello, I am old school. I like to own my software on a disk and have a fancy box to collect. I have sims going way, way back. I would like to buy a boxed version of Rf2 when it comes out. Will there be an option for this? Thank you, Derek Speare
Tim (ISI) have said (if I remember correctly) that a DVD version will come out, although this WON'T happen with the initial release. It will be something like rFactor 1, where the DVD version came a lot later (I believe when the game reached 1.25)
Correct. Like with rF1 we'll reach a place where we'd want to ship on DVD. Although at this point it cannot be said for certain that a DVD will happen, but it is likely.
I am also looking forward to the DVD version. I live in a rural area with very slow DSL. It took 6 hours to download GT Legends and when I went to install it, no luck. So I had to spend another 6 hours to download it again. I do not want to do that again. So in other words, please, please release a DVD version.
Camaro, if the beta is released in November, let's guess maybe 3 months before the actual first release (so February), 1.1 in.... let's say June, 1.2 in... October 2012? Maybe that's slower than it'll be, maybe it's faster... maybe at 1.2 they decide they've got enough in there for a DVD version, so if you're lucky you'll see it by next Christmas. Surely you can either find yourself a decent enough connection in the meantime, or give it a go or two if required on yours, or even have someone send you the installer (on disc), rather than get the game a year late.
My request is also fueled by a degree of disdain for the digital distribution services which interpose themselves between my sim racing and myself. If a downloaded version is free of "Steamy Interference", then I will just download it. However, I still like my boxed titles, and CamaroGold makes a good point as well. Derek
Since the place doesn't charge admission, you never know who can sneak in! @CdnRacer - I'm known for an occasional cute quip d
It sounds like your connection is not capable over a 6 hour period. rF2 it currently about 600mb or so (which will change, but just giving you an idea), just for the installer and pre-installed mod (singular). And then additional packages need downloading if you choose to install them. So you may get away with downloading it on your connection if you separate out the packages into individual downloads... As hopefully they won't last long enough to be corrupted by a dropping connection. If that doesn't work, you may wish to have a friend in a non-rural area download things (the exe, some of the mod packages) for you and burn them on a DVD, then ship it to you. Just tell him to make sure he verifies the data burned correctly.
Or if you have no friends in non rural zones you can look for a good internet cafè. Download and put the installer in your USB key.
If it's only 600mb, I should have no problem. I am beta testing C.A.R.S., the last download was 1.12GB and it took only 2 hours and 43 min. GT Legends was 2.49gb and took 6 hour's and 25 min. Thanks for the info Tim and everybody else on the forum.
