    Hi all.

I have a very cool news here.
First of all, you know that i'm working hard on the 1988 cars from carrera4.
things are well progressing and i probably will deliver a first version before the 1986 cars from my friend @doddynco .
It's not a race between us hehe, it's just how things are evoluating depending of each free time. ;)
that said, i had two big problems with the 1988 cars.

First, the ai was unable to drive them since last ai update from studio 397.
I've search so many ways to define what was the problem.
As many things are nailed (aiw path, ini files, json, physics etc.. ) I must admit i was a bit lost and frustrated.
The ai cars where first doing a spin on braking.
After that, they where prone to hit me in my back when braking. And to make things funny, that was not all the time. lol.

So, after long research, i had to work on physics more that other things.
Chances that all the tracks and aiw path i made for these mods are not involved. ( I would be very discouraged to redo this from scratch)
In another way, all other cars where driving correctly so, should have be related to physics.

The tyres where in the need of a fine tuning.
    That's done now.
But, las but not least, the big problem for a lot of people with f1 1988 cars from carrera4 was the downshifting engine break effect that lead to a spin.

I remembered that this effect was far more realistic with rfactor1 version.
Personnaly, having such power cars and downshifting "should" gives you some strong engine break, even with a heel and toe technique.
But i must admit, even if i like this effect, it was far too strong.

As i was working with all the cars, i noted that some of them where far more easy to drive.
The difference was just in this line from engine ini.

    EngineBrakingMapSetting=0 or 2

0 was probably used for an older version of the physics (rf1)
2 means torque related (as noted in skipbarber engine ini)

    That's the trick guys !!

Now, the cars behave like brutal beasts but as soon as you use a correct downshifting technique, it's pure porn to drive.

I just wanted to tell you..
    Lol

    Cheers and stay tuned.

Ps: The ferrari now have sounds but it's not a bug correction, i just used other wav files.
Something i will do later too ;)

No, you could still use them as i wrote these updates with other file names to avoid any case like that. ;)
(ps: CE was my learning step. When HE will be released, CE will no longer be updated )
    Cheers

    Hi, some news.
I'm nearly done now with the update of the fabulous 1988 f1 from carrera4 season.
One thing is very important is implement the talent file in the mod.
Anyone can tell me how i can do this and integrate it to the cars mod?
Sounds stupid but i don't know how to do it lol ;)
    Cheers

You must make a file but with the name of talent, as it was in the old career mod, unless studio 397 has changed something to implement these files in the mod.

here's an example I used in my formula pro skinset (should be .rcd, had to add .txt to upload)
just put it in one of your mas files that make up your carset.

Hello, i search for something that will give the talent file working without manipulations when someone subscribe to the mod on steam.
    Is it possible?
If yes, that will avoid people asking me how they can do it lol.
May be i need to see how others implement talent files in their cars mods.
    Cheers.

    Great news and great progress.
Hoping for some Xmas news about the complete 1986 season mod, even if it’s just another progress report on this outstanding project.

    A must watch:

Interestingly, the 1988 McLaren had a front ARB that was adjustable from inside the cockpit. See 1:06:26 in the video. Adjustable from position 1 (soft) to 8 (hard).

This is supported in rF2 but I've always found it difficult to determine which cars had it besides indycars. I figured some older F1 cars would. I don't know if it was outlawed at some point but it doesn't seem that current F1 cars support it whereas current indycars do.

Also around the same point in the video, they describe adjustable dampers.

Most (possibly all) F1 cars had cockpit adjustable front ARB by the 80's. It's a simple and powerful way to balance the car as the tyre wear and fuel load changes. Pretty sure current F1 cars would have this too.

Very nice, did a few laps in Brazil - sounds are now much sharper and crisper - love the squeaking brakes. The wind noise (that increases) on the straights is very well done - but I found it drowned out the sound of the engine - however that may be realistic. Ill give some more feedback over the weekend, but first impressions is that the sounds are excellent.

For those who are kept up at night wandering what the front wing settings mean, here is a pic of the trailing edge of the Toleman TG185's front wing. This is car from which the Benetton B186 is based on and shares the same front wing design.

I don't know what you mean sorry - What do you mean by 'it doesn't take acceleration' ?

Make sure that all the previous versions are uninstalled. If you have manually installed an old version, you will have to manually uninstall it before subscribing to the workshop.
