Brake sooner and softer isn't really the way to go in a high downforce OW car. Important is to apply max brake preassure with the initial braking and ease off the brake while you get slower and aim towards the apex. Shifting brake balancing more to the rear will help aswell but getting the brake technique right is fundamental from my POV and you can basicly apply it to everything that has wings. :)

    Found this:

Braking in IndyCars differs from braking in Formula 1. This is mainly caused by the many oval tracks in IndyCars, where drivers need to apply the brake pedal much less than on a typical Formula 1 circuit. Therefore, the brakes can be lighter in comparison to the car’s power, and brake temperature doesn’t have to be as low as in Formula 1. The brake system also lasts longer and is normally used for several consecutive races.

Increase your brake pedal resistance, a harder brake pedal will allow you to modulate your force more easily and prevent wheel lookup.
You can find many mods online to accomplish that for brakes that can not be modified.
I use a G27, the original brake pedal is lineal with almost no resistance because os a soft spring; I modified my brake pedal to a hydraulic one and can modulate my pedal force and not depends in ABS, also use technics like heel toe.
Look at your current brake pedal aln search for alternatives to increase the force in it; a load cell is not always the answer and there could be cheaper alternatives.

I specify that it is only on this car

Should not be an issue if you are using the most recent release. Verify you are using v1128 and the version of the car in the menu is listed as v1.43.

    Hello Indycarts specialists
    Your help woudl be welcome
I'm on the combo Dallara IR-18 / Indianapolis for a few days and I wonder where I'm wrong:
I coudn't find a way to go faster than 357km/h in top speed (not on a whole lap) .
This 356km/h is the top speed with default gearbox set up. The only way to dream on a higher speed is selecting another final ratio, but with one, the engine is stuck at a mid range rpm and I even rarely reach 345km/h.
(Of course I have selected the superspeedway version)

By the way, different engine maps are selectable, from 0 to 7. Is there any information anywhere about the dfferences between these 7 modes?

Last point, in the release note, it was written: "Output: 550-700 horsepower, depending on turboboost pressure used at track"
Ok, well. But how to change it or even know power is allocated for Indianapolis, that stangely, isn't listed in the customization page, unlike circuits that don't belong to official content?

With the default setup and no other cars, I could only reach 357kph, same as you. However, in the draft, with the same gearing, I could get 368kph and just barely make the corner.(although it was too fast for the corner to be taken smoothly) If you play with your setup, you may be able to squeeze a little more kph without changing gearing. You may have to raise the final gear but then reduce all the individual gears to eventually gear for a higher VMax.

    I found the trick.
In the customization page, you can choose road circuit version, short oval, oval…. and finally Indy 500!
Default set up is more adapted to this circuit, there is boost option and an appropriate gear set up.

    Hi Indycar experts!
I'm trying to like the IR-18 on ovals but it's difficult.
I don't know if it's just me or what but the default setup seems very loose. Every time I race on an oval (especially on speedways and superspeedways) I can constantly feel that the right rear is on the edge (in turns), it's like it has total control over the car. At first the car is just wobbly in turns (I have to be super careful with the throttle) then usually after a few laps the car goes into snap oversteer and I die.
Even on a track like Texas I'm nowhere near how real life drivers drive this car.
On iracing they do 40-44 sec laps around Pocono, my best is ~46.5 sec lol.
Compared to the IR-18 the DW12 is like a gokart, superfast and super easy to drive.
So what do you suggest, what should I do with the setup?
I played with the ride height, wing, weight jacker, rear ARB, on bumpy tracks decreased the fast dampers, etc but it doesn't get much better.

    Thanks in advance.

I guess the first question, to get it out there, are you choosing the correct chassis length before you load the track? There are 3 options in the customize screen. Now the real experts can chime in.

    Obviously. :) I purchased rF2 in 2013 so I know these things. :)
Btw the short oval config is not that loose, it has much more downforce (but the right rear is very hot with that too).

As I understand it, you need to decrease the weight jacker as the stint progresses to maintain the cars balance. Just like in real life the cars get loose as the tires wear. I think when I was trying to get a race at Indy to work (gave up in the end) I set the aero-balance to understeer without the weight jacker. Then with a few clicks of the weight jacker added you have some to remove during the stint. I spent the whole time trying to feel when the car was getting loose so I could adjust the weight jacker before it was too late. One click makes a big difference.

My problem at Indy was that you have to set the AI difficulty to more than about 115% for them to stay flat all around the lap, but then they are too fast. If you go any lower they are then too slow as they understeer in turn four and have to fully lift to avoid hitting the wall. Ideally you would want the AI to do a little lift before the turns to regulate their pace depending on what the AI difficulty is set to. So 100% would be flat out, 99% would be the slightest of lifts on each turn, 95% would be a bigger lift, and so on. Much more realistic than three turns flat out then a big moment on turn four.

OK. Here are my settings for a long oval like Pocono/Texas. For Indy I would set the config to Indy 500.
    halo: 75%
    config: oval config
    wheelbase: 118 inch
    steering: recommended
    track restrictions: oval
front geometry: -5/-5/-5 (I don't know what this does)
back geometry: -20/-20/0/0 (I don't know what this does)

Hmm. I haven't tried to start with added weight jacker (so I can remove more during the race) so I might try it. But honestly I only tried to run 15 min races without dying, right now a proper long race is out of the question. How I tried is I added understeer + removed weight jacker at the start. It's working for a few laps then snaps. :D But I tried it without touching (don't want to lose speed) the back wing so I decreased the front wing. But according what you said I'm not the only one struggling with this car.

Yes. My guess is that AI fastpath at Indy500 was made with the DW12 because the DW12 is very good there. I would've liked to make an another fastpath for the IR-18 but I can't make the IR-18 to show up in devmode. I made a new fastpath at Pocono with the Stockcar 2018x and it seems to work pretty well with the IR-18 so I might try this at Indy too.

I managed to make a setup and now the car doesn't feel like it's trying to kill me but it's not superfast that's for sure. Who cares, I only race against the AI. :D

Does AI know how to use p2p?

AI changes tires to a different type?

@Paul Jeffrey I think only you can tell for sure)

i notice that RFactor 2 IR18 has a single exhaust pipe on each side
but on real cars and onboard cams, we can see 2 exhaust pipes on each side

does it depend on HPD engines or Chevy engines ?
or was it it an older config ?

and double pipes is the new config/evo for 2022 ?
