Must be Dan Gurney no doubt.

Another one which comes into my mind is Willy T. Ribbs

Mario Andretti, and his credentials overwhelmingly support that.

Best current USA driver is hard to call. Alexander Rossi, Josef Newgarden are at the top of the game, but I suspect Colton Herta will become a standout in 2021. Colton has the driving talent along with setup skills and has demonstrated a level of wisdom as a young driver not seen since Senna.

Sportscar drivers, who also crossed over in to other disciplines, that come to mind; Johnny O'Connell, Tommy Kendall, Al Unser Jr., Booby Rahal, Hurley Haywood, Scott Pruett, Al Holbert, Butch Leitzinger to name but a few.

As for current I'm not sure but NASCAR drivers don't get the credit they deserve IMO.

i thank you so lot to have answer.
In Europe, it was Ayrton Senna and Mario Andretti before and perhaps a big fighter like Nelson Piquet
In Usa, there is some series Imsa, Nascar, Cart, Canam where
the motorsport is more important with some constructors that support this field of passion.
i don t forget that there is some amerivcan pilots who drived in Le Mans

    Have a nice day

Originally I thought this was about USA. But if this is about continents, then undoubtedly #1 is Juan Manuel Fangio, #2 is Ayrton Senna. Might as well be same for who were the best drivers ever.

I would rank Parnelli Jones & Jacques Villeneuve fairly close, each could push a car past where the car wanted to go.
