I think AC is a real gem of a Sim but, it's too bad Kunos didn't build on that model further. It's pretty clear (through mod'ing) that the overall game-engine has more potential than the developers utilized.

AMS2 is progressing decently but, I have concerns that some physics issues in the Madness engine may be extremely difficult to solve. Still, I think Reiza will make the most of what it has to offer in time but, AMS1 also sets a high bar to meet.

I'm not sure any of the other titles could replace rF2 in the way it satisfies, or draws us in. I might consider iRacing a strong contender if not for the pay model that doesn't suit me. It too, continues to evolve and grow over time, and certainly has it's strengths.

Good first interview... that's nice to hear the focus might be shifted, a bit more, on other aspect left aside till now.. once the UI/competition systeme is up and running...
While obvious to a certain extend... it needed to be adressed... but it doesn't change the difficulty of the challenges... lot of catching up, research just to get started... just hope the community understand that.

Agreed that 'rfactor3' would be more about marketing than anything else... at some point if we end up with dx12 or vulkan product... with an evolution of the tire model and graphics engine... all in a 'mature' state... that's when will have effectively rf3.

One question that would be interested to know more about is the futur of pricing and content structure, accessibility... in iracing you know that you buy a car you can run it online along others... in Assetto corsa you konw that you have the base content but some servers need some pack... while in rf2 it's a mix of both and neither at the same time which could make it confusing/ frustrating for some. Maybe an obvious disclaimer for the time being when we purchase single car...

Is quite cool to know that Marcel has a background with open source software. Obviously they are not going to release the sources of rFactor 2 but it is good to know that they will continue working so the community can continue giving their contribution with mods, third-party software and so on.

It's very nice to have some information.

On the other hand I must say that as a person who doesn't speak English very well, I would have preferred a format like the interview on Racedepartment 2 years ago.

Indeed, understanding written English is much easier, and the youtube subtitles are a bit fast and do not allow you to use google translate.

Some of the users, probably large, will not understand everything.

software like jdownloader 2 will give you options to download audio, thumbs and subtitles from youtube video, download the file (.srt I think) and copy/paste the content on google translate

    @Marcel Offermans

    Hello Marcel.

Like everyone else, I really enjoyed the interview.

One of the only things that I believe has not been covered by the interview, but is of some importance to a number of rF2 users, is the (overall) sound improvement in rFactor 2.

Can you tell us something about that please ? It would be nice.

I think you only have to play R3E, ACC or even PC2 to realise the detail that is misisng in rf2's sounds: bumps, in-car squeaks and vibrations, better range of frequencies for engine & revs, the road, the tyres. Little subtlle details, but as the saying goes, the whole is greather than the sum of its parts.

    - Probably a slight improvement in the sounds of official cars (cockpit and exterior).

    - An improvement of all the details of the environment (tires, gearshifts, windshield wipers, sounds of water drops on the windshield, vibrators, bumps, suspensions, chassis touching the ground, better spatial sound in stereo, wind, grass and sand, various vibrations, etcetera.

    Good point !

Quote from RD interview from Juli 2019:
Would be nice to get an update on this (ATM still Miles sound system from 2005). :)

I play RR actually and the only thing I notice is the difference when you are standing in pits and cars are passing by, and indeed when you bottom out, which you hardly hear at all in rF2. Those 2 were the only things that stood out to me. But I've driven ACC, nothing really stood out to me there really, just like PC2 (although I have only played that one once). There definitely can be improvement like you said though.

I just hope, since there is a lot of more important things now to fix/improve in this sim, they can get a sound specialist or something that can redo the sound engine for S397

Audio is one area both rF2 and AMS2 are lacking. I've been playing a load or DR2 lately and that really is a masterpiece in just about every aspect imo. Only problem for me is lack of triple support but it really shows me what immersion that good audio can deliver. For me it's DR2, ACC and R3E that are the audio benchmark that other Sims need to compete with.

Yes, still Miles sound system. No, not from 2005. Miles has been updated and S397 increased the number of possible samples per car a couple years ago. Edit: here is the link to the 2018 announcement https://www.studio-397.com/2018/04/release-of-build-1110/

In practical terms, we've seen that poor samples & lack of understanding how to use a particular sound engine will mean poor sounds regardless of the sound engine. Many official AC sounds are, unfortunately, a stand-out example of poor work. Raceroom still uses Miles, but they overhauled & added triggers that weren't in rFactor.

To me, the most unfortunate aspect of rF2 sound is that it is the only sim still stuck in stereo, never having upgraded to surround sound.

    Hi Studio 397,
I'm new to rFactor 2 (it's my 2nd month). I came from pCars 1, 2 & (heavily Modded) AC. I must say now i'm having a hard time going back in those SIMs, even though they are superior when it comes to graphics. I think you're going in the right direction, keep it up! :)Having said that, there's 1 minor request or issue that i'm having. In the UI, when i'm playing with the AI, can you possibly give an option to individually remove a specific car, not only to select all or remove all. There's a few MOD cars that do or look weird inside a pack of cars, so having an option to select/delete a specific car is awesome. And before i forget, is there a way to auto update the thumbnails of MOD cars, i do appreciate the cars with a clothe cover, but in "Content Manager" in AC there's a tool that you can update all liveries and preview items in the UI/content manager, that would be awesome as well. That's if for now and thank you in advance ;)

You can remove individual cars once you are at the track, but you have to know the car name and number and driver. Once you learn which skins you want to avoid, you can use the dev mode(& perhaps Mod Manager) to make a vmod that only contains the cars you want.
