I'm running a 4690k@4.2ghz which is from 2014 with a GTX1070, and I run a rift S on high settings without any performance issues - I really don't see any problems. What I can confirm is that there are settings in the json which will completely screw up your framerate if you haven't set it up well, but that's ok as it's an 'open' sim. There are also bad ways to configurure your VR headset with either oculus or steam vr which will completely ruin playback.

There's little point comparing to other Sims, they each use (mostly) their own Graphical engine with many other areas of the Sim affecting GPU and CPU calculations with a million different variables.

Find the balance that works right for each Sim independently, it's what i do and i have a great time in each one.

RF2 VR works very well especially since those aforementioned optimisation improvements were made.

I tried RF2 VR with a Samsung Odyssey+ and it looks like iracing is considerably sharper. Do you have any tips to get similar sharpness and overall definition to iracing?

You can significantly improve the image quality by doing 4 things :

    1) Put on supersampling and increase it.

    2) Increase the AA of the game

    3) nvidia control panel : texture high quality, LOD negative bias = Clamp, deactivate the two options of texture filtering optimization but normally they are deactivated with high quality texture.

    4) Works with the 3/, ingame anisotropic X16 (max).

All this to the max greatly improves the image in VR but also screen.

I don't know though if you will get an image as good as iracing.

I tried to read this thread from start to finish, but I've found too many information that confuse me.

Some good boy, can suggest me a good setting up for my rig?

    AMD 3600 X (no oc)
    MSI GTX 1080 X
    16 GB RAM
    Oculus Rift S

I'm a novice, start from zero about VR.

Would be very nice and gentle if a experienced user could do a guide to optimize performance and quality using VR. I have problems with it too.

Start with low settings and gradually work your way up, if you're a newbie to VR don't go expecting the same FPS as on a flat screen with the same settings, VR needs more power so generally settings are lower.

If you use SteamVR, from my point of view, fpsVR is a fantastic tool.
This program tells you the use of CPU (and cores) and GPU.
You can see, where are your bottlenecks and/or if you have unused resources (i don't know if this is written correctly, sorry).
Knowing this, you can know what to do, to config your SteamVR and rF2 propperly.

To optimize QUALITY (I don't speak here of perf) :

    Ingame :

    - Anisotropic X16 (associated with circuit detail ultra + texture detail ultra + cockpit detail ultra)
    - AA level 5

    Nvidia Control Panel :

    - Texture : high quality
    - Negative LOD bias : clamp
    - Trilinear and Anisotropic optimisation : Off

    Supersampling :

    More is better (of course)

I have an i7 7700k at 4.8ghz and a 1080ti and the game runs pretty well on low and post-processing off without any cars on track.

If I add more than 10 cars though (Silverstone, GTE at 7AM) the performance bombs and it goes down to 45fps mode on what seems to be a very CPU-limited scenario.

Any tips to get it running well? I'm playing it on the valve index on the 90Hz mode.

    Reduce Visible Opponents
    Lower Opponents Graphical details
    Lower AA
    Shadow Blur OFF
    Particle Effects OFF
    Reflections LOW or OFF

Rfactor2 VR users, specifically RiftS but possibly affects other headsets too.

Have you always found that RF2 looks washed out and dull compared to other Sims. That's what I've always thought but have never found a fix.....until now that is.

Whilst looking for a fix I came across a file called Config_DX11. Within that config file there's a line which by default reads ShadersLevel=0. By modifying this to =1 the game is significantly brighter and the colours more saturated. At 2 it was too much for me.

I suppose it depends on how you like your games to look but for me it's a good improvement so I thought worthwhile sharing.

What setting are you using for super sampling? I've left mine set at 1.0 but have changed some settings in the Nvidia control panel to sharpen the image. The result is pretty decent.

Also, I've got ASW set to OFF and GPU scaling to OFF in Oculus Tray Tool.

The result for me is a nice steady 80fps. I do get dips at the start of races still but other than that very good.

I think actually that ASW 2.0 is not that bad.. stable 40 FPS and the image is very smooth.
I can load more cars , post processing and the only thing I lose is a little bit of sense of speed.

Maybe the answer is obvious, but it just amazes me. I can run my Lenovo Explorer at New York, Berlin, etc., with everything turned to up high or full with 24 Formula E cars and hardly dip below 90fps (it reports 90.1 as the average and a min of 89). The other night, I loaded up LeMans and the Oreca07, and it would dip down into the 40s with settings like reflections off and track, opponent, etc, at medium. Such a dramatic difference (vega64 and i7 9770).

Thats it. I can run with rift S...Imola, 18 AI. Graphics almost everything at High. steady 80fps on grid, last position.
Same situation at nurburgring GP. 18 AI, last position. 40 fps.

VR performance in rfactor 2 is very unstable.

e.g AMS 2, graphics at high/ultra..24 AI. steady 80 fps all the race(some rare frame drop). The only track that my fps drops is Monaco(Between Casino and Mirabeau Haute).

    I7 9700k@ 5.1, 2080 TI, 16 gb@ 3200.

It probably wouldn't hurt to create a player.json file for each track. I'm assuming all the graphics information from the Options menu is stored there. Then all you'd have to do is remember to load the proper player.json before starting. I don't change cars and tracks that much because of the difference in display settings between tracks.

Does OPENCOMPOSITE (OCULUS) work for you since the update ?

I tried this last week and couldn't get passed the track loading screen.

I would love to find a way to bypass SteamVR. I'm sure that's responsible for most of the VR graphics problems we are experiencing.
