    Hello everyone,

I am having a friend program a steering wheel controller for me and I need to know the maximum number of inputs I can have for a usb device on RF2 is because he says some games will only recognize up to 32. Is this the case for Rfactor2?

Hopefully I don't sound like a complete idiot and someone can help.

    Thanks

I don't know an official Number.
And maybe i'm totally wrong with the following Thought. :)
The default Keyboard Bindings are 72.
And they should also work if you use a USB Keyboard.
So i would suppose that rFactor 2 at least should recognize 72 "Inputs" with USB.

That is what I would think too but I don't know much about that side of things to be honest. Don't know if there are other factors involved. I appreciate the response

rFactor2 WAS limited to much less than that until recently. One of the updates, around v.1119 opened up the number of USB inputs that the program would accept. I'm not sure of the exact number, but I would still be surprised to think rF2 can read 72 separate USB ports. (or am I mis-reading the original question?)

I asked what the maximum number of inputs (button assignments if you will) for a usb controller is in Rfactor2 is. My friend said that some games will only go up to 32 per device.

    Thank you

I can't offer any specific answer, but I suspect it's somewhere between the 2 posts above. A keyboard isn't really a reference as windows passes that to the game as keyboard inputs, and Dave misread the post so was thinking number of controllers.

Some people use button boxes and stuff - just need one with >=32 inputs to chime in.

I have almost all things mapped in the sim all over the keyboard, on my wheel and my stick. I never ran into a button/function not working. Even stuff i never use. :D

It's about a single controller, and how many buttons/controls are supported on it. Not how many you have assigned in total. If your wheel has 50 buttons please report back.

Why do you need to know OP? I know you can use a bunch because of the wheels ive had that i could have A LOT. Are you building a button box with 1000 buttons? :D

Yes. I think rF2 is like most sims as i've always been able to map everything onto peripherals with tons of buttons.

The whole thread has been asking about 32 or more, not 'tons'. Thankfully lagg has contributed with an actual number.

Exactly. There was never any doubt 32 wasnt doable.

BTW isnt a USB keyboard a "USB peripheral"? Mine has some 100 buttons and most of them are mapped as i said above.

No, because Windows detects the USB keyboard as a keyboard device.
A button box or a wheel is recognized as a joystick device and the OS treat them in a different way.

The Fanatec Formula wheel supposedly has 90+ possible button options, but many of those are based on several rotary switches which I don't think rF2 handles at all. I think there was a thread about that last year...
