Based on my experience, for Antialiasing level 3 who equals msaax4 better to stay in Anisotropic x8 (look at clouds or sun white glare). At 1080p postproces ultra, special effects full and road reflection ultra makes no sense maybe for 2k or 4k and in that case better to stay one step below on high.

In the end think that recomended settings are not totally acurate.

I hope for 3 standart calibrated presets implementation with new UI. There are not other so dificult to configure graphics simulator out there and most people claiming about bad graphics when bad configuration interations.
Request for Studio 397 to check this out.

Not much point really when car and track combo can make a difference to fps as well as what they note with resolution post fx ,aa etc.
Plus those settings are from 2 years ago and we have better hardware available now.

Whilst true - and I did post the settings should be stickied and updated - the settings are a great starting point rather than setting everything to maximum for little gain.

Travis, I just upgraded to a RTX 2080 Super, used your High End settings and it improved my visual like a 100%, thanks!

I'm glad you've used the High settings as a starting point. I believe @Christopher Elliott made the settings some time ago and it would be great to see the settings updated to match the new content and shaders etc.

I forgot to ask, what is your display?
About the cheapest you can get that card here in Oz is $1000.
Even though I could, there's no way I'm paying that for a graphics card so I'll be using my 1080 and my triple 1920x1080s for some time yet.

This threat is oudated, at least the first post.
What I found best for quality is All on max (even post-processing, and shadow ultra) but keep shadow blur on optimal and deactivate soft particles because it blurres everything.
    Best quality
    Post processing : Ultra
    All details: Full
    Anisotropic filtering x16
    Shadow: Ultra
    Effects: Ultra
    Shadow blur: Optimal
    Soft particles: Off
    Rain drops: Ultra
    Road Reflection: Ultra
    Enviromental reflection: High

This gives the best image quality in my experience .

The rF2 graphics are really good for me in these conditions :

    - Tracks and cars graphically good
    - Maximum graphics (I see in driving a big difference between PP Medium and Ultra)
    - a good resolution (or good supersamping in VR) and sufficient AA.
In particular, aliasing techniques that make the aliasing on the shadows very low (super sparse grid).
    - Vary the driving hours.

I would suggest that S397 is investing massively in the improvement of the physics engine rather than the improvement of the graphics engine.

Last post of settings is based on test with the last version.

Basically soft particles doesn't work for me and ultra shadows and post procesing is quality noticeable.

In any case I heard about graphic engine tweak update coming.

It also kills the FPS quite a bit. Obviously you will get the best graphical results by maximizing everything, that's not much of a surprise. But once you start adding 40 AI cars, rain, Nordschleife and night conditions you start running into performance issues with maxed settings.

It all depends on the hardware you use.

Before I was on a screen in 1080p, with a "modest" GTX 1080 + old i7 4770K not OC, and with graphics at 100% maximum, with a very high AA (super sparse grid X2) and in the worst racing conditions I had 98 or 99% 60 stable FPS (timescale X15 + rain + sunrise and night and sunset + 61 AI + Sebring + multiclass + S397 cars).

With my Rift S (VR), doing this would give me between 10 and 15 FPS with a more powerful PC (i7 9700K OC + 41%, 16 GB ram @ 4000 Mhz, same GTX 1080.

On 1080p screen is not a big difference cause like in any sim the race conditions are the true bottleneck becuse cpu load, so rise up quality is not so taxing even on the worst scenarios.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.
Resolution is the spec I was after.
A 24 and a 48 inch display both at 1920x1080 is no different as far as performance.
